I was all over it! 😆

    Think I'm about there!

What caliber is your kibler? Mine is .50 and I'm wondering if I should give 2f a try. I've been shooting 3f and and am not getting GREAT groups. Acceptable hunting groups, but I'd really like to tighten them up a bit. Here is a recent one I shot. It's 5 shots, there are 2 in the top hole. I am...

Thank you very much sir! Means a lot! I've had a lot of fun with it so far and will hopefully bag a deer with it in the fall!

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

I would highly recommend it! Especially with the Kibler kits. It can take as little or as much time as you want it to it seems.

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

Yeah it had even gotten a little bit darker between that "before" photo and when I refinished it. It went a bit more on the red side.

Thank you very much guys! Means a lot to hear that about my first rifle build!

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

The blade is marked with a small deer track, maybe someone here knows who uses that as a makers mark. And so the mods don't accuse me of getting off topic... here is a photo of the some work I did on the muzzle of the rifle and some accent lines I carved on the cheekpiece. Also really happy...

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

I hear that! I was out for the last Illinois muzzleloader season last year with an antlerless only tag and walked up on a group of does that startled me about as much as I startled them, but I've got my name in the first lottery this year for an A/O and an either *** tag, so fingers crossed!

Honestly it wasn't so much the color I was unhappy with before it was the permalyn. It just felt very artificial to me. But yeah, you're very right, everyone has their tastes!

I'm not actually sure who made the knife. I bought it from someone on the forum here, but yeah I think it is a shinbone haha It's not actually quite that shiny now. For these pictures I had just wiped it down with a little finishing oil before I took them. It's a bit less shiny generally. Here...

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

I suppose for reference I can probably post what it looked like before. This is the same rifle without the carving and finished with only Kiblers iron nitrate and permalyn. Just wasn't what I was hoping for. Here you can also see how much darker the "tarnish" finish was on the barrel was before...

Yeah, I'm really happy with the color this time! It's a very fun process. I can't wait to build another one now. My next one will be smoothbore though for turkey hunting.

Standard I believe, but I can't say for sure as I bought the kit from someone else.

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

She's in .50. The barrel, lock, and brass were originally finished with Kibler's tarnishing solution. Much of which has worn back bright due to cleaning.

Second Finish On My First Flintlock

Well I just recently finished refinishing my kibler colonial. I didn't use tannic acid the first time and finished with permalyn and was just never really happy with it. I just knew I could do better. So I sanded it all down and redid it. This time I carved some simple molding lines along the...
