    USPS Fiasco

I hate to be THAT guy... but I've had nothing but success with USPS for the most part, but you are right... they will not pay an insurance claim. I flat out don't ship a firearm thru them anymore. I'll use shipmygun and just drive into San Antone to a customer service center for UPS.

Will the bottom fall out of the custom build business?

The bottom may fall out, but custom rifles are more popular than they ever have been, and it's not grumpy old codgers on SS buying them either. I'm 31; I have 6 custom rifles. My John Bergmann Caplock SMR is my most prized, most shot, and most hunted with.

Which state is the best for ML?

Just a lot more people now than "back then".

Which state is the best for ML?

Texas is okay... we get a lot of time to hunt, but the public is dismal and isn't getting any better. Most of the State PHL is all bow, a few are shotgun/ML. The national forests allow rifles/ML/slug.

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

Again, sales. Rendevouz, clubs like NMLRA etc... in my opinion are mostly hermetically sealed societies. I don't participate in Rendevouz, matches, clubs, or anything similar related to muzzleloading. As close as it gets for me is my silhouette club will put on a flintlock/caplock turkey shoot...

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

Not everyone is going to like what we like. Our ancestors used muzzleloading rifles during their time because that was the best they could get during that time. Had the AR15 existed then, they would have had those instead. Today traditional muzzleloaders are like motorcycles, fast cars, or any...

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

Supply and demand. There will NEVER be as many traditional muzzleloaders built and sold as modern inlines. They simply cannot be made fast enough to meet demand, hence the back log. It's not an apples and oranges comparison.

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

Traditional muzzleloaders are more popular now than they ever were. Try ordering a custom rifle from any contemporary artist right now... you're looking at 6months, to a year, if not more. Even a Kibler kit takes quite some time to arrive. Dont look at match or rendevouz attendance, look at sales.

    Hornady .535" round ball users

Whether you believe it's happening or not, it's happening. I can see if you're using small ball/thick patch where there is a chance it wouldn't be overly dramatic, but it is happening.

    Hornady .535" round ball users

Your eyes can't measure in a thousandth of an inch. They're not perfectly round anymore, and when they get slapped on the behind by BP they're definitely not going to be a ball when they exit the muzzle. Obturation.

    A two gun fetish

I'm much the same way, except I don't go as far as you do to make sure they're identical. I just take two properly equipped, and capable rifles along with me and that's that. In fact, I might even switch em out and carry a different one for morning or evening hunts, or depending on the day.

    Lead casting, flux, temp, etc

I would imagine dropping a small amount of lead in a ladle and melting it by placing the ladle in some hot coals produced lead hot enough, fast enough, to make wrinkles a non-issue. Speculation though.

    t.o.t.w. mink oil

One side, both sides, just enough to matter... just don't use too much. I cursed the stuff for years thinking it didn't do anything to help keep fouling soft or make loading easier, until I realized I was just using too dang much of it. I'll still pre-soak patches in it after melting a little...

    Extremely frustrated

Thanks, and yep... that's why I asked. I read the thread once already but was brainstorming ideas anyways. I'm glad you figured it out OP... sometimes it just be's like that. My Kibler Colonial in 58 is a particuarly picky gun, even the way you hold it can dramatically change POI. It's...

    Extremely frustrated

Someone may have asked, but is this a different lot of powder? Or is it the same opened can from years back?

    Piece of Junk

The pre-conceived notions and misconceptions by modern "riflemen" if you can call them that, about older firearms is mind boggling to say the least, downright annoying most of the time.

    Extremely frustrated

Recoil is coming into play here and you probably don't realize it, including some mental gymnastics. You've written the GPR off... but in previous posts you still raved about how well the .40 shot, and I bet your feelings are much the same about what I assume is an M96. Subconsciously you aren't...

Flintlock accuracy, is it me ?

It's you, not the rifle. I've been shooting these things for quite some time now and I'm still not "good" at it. I can hold a ragged hole off of bags but as soon as I pick the rifle up off the bench, or start adding in some form of human variable the shots start to move. It's gonna take...

Are Swiss and Schuetzen the same powder?

Not made in the same place, different powder. It's okay, I find it better than Goex but not much better. It does seem to foul harder. When I burn thru all of the Schuetzen that I have I'll just hold out for Swiss.

    Skinner peep sight.

I've used a ton of them, and have one on my renegade as well. Works best with the aperture removed being so far ahead, but it's light years ahead of the factory TC sight. I thinned out the front to a point as well.
