    Kibler Colonial Rifle Build

All parts on the lock were rust blued except for the top jaw (flame blued). I didn't go crazy with polishing though, just enough to get the tool marks off.

    Kibler Colonial Rifle Build

The finished product. The stock was stained with Laurel Mtn Forge antique stain, and then two coats of permalyn sealer. I knocked the sealer back just to the point of fresh wood and I've been doing a coat of 1/3rd mix daily. I really enjoyed building this rifle. I hope it shoots as well as it looks.

    Kibler Colonial Rifle Build

This is the start of day 2. The day began by doing the rest of the fit and finish work on the brass parts, draw filing the barrel, and polishing the other metal bits. The day was finished out by flame blueing small parts, and getting larger parts ready for rust blue. You can see the barrel...

    Kibler Colonial Rifle Build

Thought I'd post a thread with some pics from my Kibler Colonial Rifle build in 58 caliber. I received the gun last Thursday or Friday, and after getting home from a dove hunt trip this past Tuesday I got to work building it. No carving or anything like that unfortunately, I'm just not practiced...

    Kibler Colonial Assembly Timeline

Loving how your build is going. I built my Kibler this week in about 2 or 3 days, but I didn't do any carving on the stock or metal engraving... I'm not that skilled. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

    New Flintlocks

All my flinters are custom and didn't come with a manual. I was surprised when I opened my Kibler Colonial Rifle kit yesterday to see that it came with instructions. In typical man fashion, the chance I read them is not high. 😂

    What's in your powder horn

That's what I will likely use, maybe even for a pig too this weekend. I usually deer hunt with a 54 and my trade gun prefers 2F, that's what I meant. Will be swapping out.

I'm in the Pearland area, and shoot BPCR Silhouette with Yaupon Creek. I spend most of my time burning BP at PSC Shooting Club in Friendswood.

    What's in your powder horn

Depends on what I'm shooting. Right now it's Schuetzen 3F for the 40, but once squirrel season is over and after I bust a javelina here soon, it'll go back to Olde Eynsford 2F. The Swiss 1.5 is for those new cartridges everyone keeps talking about.

Informal Shooting - Alone or with Friends?

I'm very fortunate in that my best friend and shooting partner, is as serious of a shooter as I am. If we're at the range together, we're both likely "working" which makes the experience more enjoyable, so I guess I don't prefer to be alone if I can choose my company.

    Large caliber

Always been partial to .54, but I have a .58 on the way and it may just change my mind.

Now toot, that's not a good excuse! I get whooped every match by men your age and older shooting iron sights! Old age and experience always beats youth and treachery.

anyone in the Tallahassee area of Florida?

Wife is from there and I used to live there, and we still go out that way fairly often. What do you need?

Never been over seas, but I hear the area you are in is a beautiful place. Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it. I've seen him out and about before but we're usually in the middle of shooting steel animals, and as you know, that is very serious business. A hunting buddy of mine lives in...

The wind can definitely be strange. I love how it will be blowing as hard as can be on the pig line but the turkey line flag doesn't even move, or even opposite of that combination. A good spotter is definitely required. I believe our club championship is the 2nd saturday of October, but I will...

Is it a slick black cadillac with solid gold hub caps? The kind that makes you feel like a king? If so I'll need a bunch of likes, because I definitely want to win it! I shoot my flinters out at PSC Shooting Club in Friendswood. I've been a member out there (twice) for about 10 or 11 years. We...

Thank you. Always wanted to hunt in the Sabine NF. I might have to make a short trip this year.

Thanks of the warm welcome. Here are my two flinters, and I've got a Kibler colonial rifle in 58 cal on the way that should be here in the next week or so. The lock on the short 54 trade gun in the bottom pic is going back to L&R for a tune up. Frizzen is tweaked (looks like it got twisted...

Hello all, new here, just wanted to introduce myself. I put up the front stuffers years ago, but getting back into BPCR and competitively renewed my interest in traditional muzzleloaders both shooting them and hunting, and that's how I found my way here. Have a few flintlocks and I'm always...
