Well I got the Smoothbore, but now...

I'm assuming the "crown" or inner bevel of the bore and not the outside correct? I imagine this would be very subtle filing as well? Half round file? After burning 2lbs of now extinct Olde Eynsford, I'm confident there is nothing I can do via load at this point to move that round ball 7".

Well I got the Smoothbore, but now...

I'm 100% comfortable with recrowning a rifle barrel, and have done it multiple times and possess the tools to do so. I am not familiar with filing a smoothbore barrel to impart a POI shift. If you know how, please inform me if you don't mind. I genuinely want to know, as I will try it. But who...

    T/C White Mountain Carbine Re-bore

Another shameless plug for Mr. Hoyt's work. It really is top notch. Happy to see your rebore shoots as well as mine!

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

Was just being humorous. As it is I don't blow in the barrel of my muzzleloaders, but I don't have any reason for doing so, or not doing so... it just simply doesn't cross my mind. I just spit patch and keep on truckin. I suppose I oughta try it sometime? Hot air is cheaper than patches.

    Patience grasshopper

My Colonial 58 back in September was in my hands right at the tail end of 5 weeks. Wrong barrel was sent on the first go around, but it was taken care of same day. I'm going to send my order in for an SMR in 36 caliber so let's see. I'm not in any hurry.

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

Ooo, I like where this is going. Now let's argue about blow tube vs wiping rod, and lubricant to boot? Grease cookies too! And my method is the best. 😆

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

You're slowly convincing me, and I may try it. I just prefer an aperture because if wind and mirage are just slight right to left, or left to right, I can shade the silhouette and get away with no sight adjustment.

Well I got the Smoothbore, but now...

Well it took time, but it appears the barrel has memory and moved back over time. We're back to shooting about 7" right and high now. Shot is fine. I've got some solder on the way from TOTW, and brownells. Guess it's time to move the front sight.

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

Drop tube and all. It's fun to watch... my wife would kill me if an underhammer chunk gun or a Gibbs rifle showed up at the door step at this point.

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

Oh I'm well aware. I have a hunting load, and a target load for just about every flinter I own. I'm concentrating on hunting loads with the Kibler as that is what I built it for. It's funny you mention your favorite load for your 45 is 42gr. For cartridges I measure my BP by weight, and even...

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

Funny you mention the thicker blade. I tried a post and lollipop on 200m chickens at one time and did fairly well. It's going to take teeth pulling to get me to ditch aperture altogether though.

    .570 balls in a 20G smoothy

Worth a shot (pun intended), and it's crossed my mind. I already shoot an unpatched .600 RB out of my Fusil with decent success.... just hits about a foot to the right of where I want to hit. Hold it down with a thick thick thick wad of flax tow impregnated with mink oil.

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

It's just elevation... windage could be tweaked but it's probably perfect, and any slight variation is just me. I've got an eye doc appointment scheduled in a few weeks, it's time. The elevation is definitely recoil control thru the shot sequence, and that I am confident of at this point. It...

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

More improvement today. This picture is a replication of about how this gun would be shot out of my climbing stand. Front hand propped on the bar, with my elbows locked into the rails. This is also what 100gr of 2F Olde Eynsford looks like at 50 yards. Off hand the gun shoots about 7" high with...

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

It is true, get good at these things and you can shoot anything well. My little Ted Kramer 40 cal (actually a 38 since it takes a .380 roundball, but that's another story for another day) is such a good shooting little rifle. I shoot it extremely well and I attribute it to the straight profile...

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

Check above your last post, they have been elongated. Also figured out slow velocity with slower lockup time, combined with such a light heavy recoiling gun was part of the problem. Started holding on much tighter and things improved. It also made me make some big changes to my custom rifle a...

    Barrel Harmonics or Technique?

No, nor unmentionables. Question was address I believe on page 2.

    Centermark Fusil sear spring

Pricey with shipping, $17.95, but I needed it. They didn't ask for the lock and I can't see why they would need it. Previous owner did some stoning of the broken sear spring and that likely attributed to the weakness, and the way too hair trigger.

    Swiss BP

Have talked to several fellow BPCR competitors about caviar and the consensus it's not worth the extra coin over standard Swiss 1.5. I have tried, but not worked up a load, Swiss 1.5 in my 58 cal front stuffers and it ignites fine.

Sam Houston National Forest in Texas

Don't get caught up in what has been burnt and what hasn't, just look for sign and the deer will be there. Trails in the Sam are the most important thing. Just know if the trails are in an area with human pressure the deer will be more nocturnal than anything. If I can pull off a double, you can...
