    .50 vs .54 accuracy

Track of the wolf has drop in barrels that fit .45 and .50 cal TC hakwkens with 15/16 barrel

    .50 vs .54 accuracy

Considering getting a .54 cal drop in barrel by green mountain 1:66 round ball twist. Just curious if there's is any significant accuracy differences between .50 and .54 sort of comparing apples to oranges here I suppose. I have two TC Hawken rifles one with .50 cal GMB 1:66 unfired and another...

Maine State Woods Walk Championship 2022

Can we show up a little later in the day and still shoot? Around 11am maybe. I work night shift.

    Barrel Rebore

I have a TC Hawken barrel .50 cal 1:48 twist, 15/16 across the flats, still shoots good but I'm thinking about getting it rebored to a .54 cal once the rifling is shot out. Comparing it to an unfired barrel I have I'd say it probably has 40-50% life left in it. Hard to say but as much as I shoot...

    TC Renegade Carbine rifle?

I had a Renegade awhile back maybe it just seems short because I'm used to my Hawken rifles that have 28 & 32 inch barrels. Looked like a carbine length barrel to me but maybe I'm imagining things....it sure seemed shorter than my old Renegade I had.

    TC Renegade Carbine rifle?

Local gun shop has what appears to be a .50 Thompson Center Renegade with a carbine length barrel probably 24 inch barrel if I had to guess. Looks to be in fair condition, the rifling seems to be in good shape, I didn't have my bore light handy but from sticking my pinky finger in the muzzle it...

Insurance for hosting a black powder event

If one were to host a black powder event on their own private property such as a woods walk, competition shoot or a rendezvous, would the host need some sort of liability insurance to protect themselves from a lawsuit just in case god forbid a fellow black powder shooter has a mishap with a gun...

    July Postal Match

I find 25 yard targets to be more of a challenge than 50 yard targets for some reason. I scored 45x out of 50 on a 50 yard off hand target at a local competition last month.

Here is my 25 yard off hand July target. Very tricky with iron sights. 10 shots on paper

    Cleaning

It helps avoid flash rusting because the water evaporates much faster leaving only the ballistol behind.

    Cleaning

Ballistol is a water soluble oil and when mixed with boiling hot water it cleans the barrel nicely and the water is so hot that it evaporates very fast inside the barrel only leaving the oil behind. Never does it flash rust with this process. I mean it's so HOT that you can't touch it without...

    Cleaning

I normally clean my black powder guns shortly after shooting with a solution of Ballistol and boiling hot water, plunge the barrel with the ramrod until the solution sprays out the muzzle. I did a little shooting today and plan to shoot more tomorrow so I soaked the inside of the barrel with...

    Material for over powder wads

I've shot allot of roundball but I like casting my own Lee .50 cal 250 grain real bullets. 70 grain charge of 3F they hit a little harder than a 177 grain roundball.

    Material for over powder wads

Looking for the best material to make felt wads similar to the Ox-Yoke wonder wads. I've been shooting cast .50 cal Lee Real bullets out of my Hawken. The Wonder wads are rather expensive so I figured I'd try and punch out some of my own. Some guys use cardboard milk cartons but that doesn't...

    July Postal Match

I'll print it off and shoot it this weekend with my TC Hawken .50 cal. 25 yards off hand. I have a range finder to make sure it's the correct distance.

    Traditions trapper diailed in

2nd time shooting the traditions trapper .50 cal pistol, raised the rear sight a little bit then it was right on the money at 15-25 yards. I even hit the steel gong at 55 yards from a tripod. Fun afternoon doing some target shooting. .25 grains Swiss 3F 0.15 patch and 490 round ball. I tried 30...

    Traditions Trapper .50 cal

Do You remember the thickness patch you were using? I ordered some 0.15 ticking patches hopefully that helps. The 0.20 cabelas patches were way to thick and the 0.10 ones I had seemed really cheap and thin material.
