How to clean out lead contaminated(?) cast iron

If it did, Lyman (and RCBS and SAECO and a few others) would be out of the bullet mold business tomorrow.

Can I switch to left handed shooting?

Another lefty here. Most guns I have ever shot were made backwards, so it's not a big deal. Never been burned or hit by shrapnel because of that. Worst problem I have had is with unmentionable semi autos, shotguns in particular being hard on my right ear. Shooting a muzzleloader left-handed...

    How do you hold?

Depends on the gun and the sights. my Dixie TMR has very long angled tapered ears so "A" would be point blank range, and then working the blade up from there to "D" as range increases. On other rifles with different sights like those @Hatchet-Jack illustrates I would hold like he does...

UPS has outdone itself. I'm actually impressed by how massive of a failure this is, even Kiblers famous crates are no match! INSURE YOUR STUFF FOLKS!

Absolutely deliberate, and why everyone needs to hate on every one of these people they know, and there are plenty of them out there, nearly half the population by last check.

    P-Max Swiss Powder Calculator

I passed on one of those shorter barreled 1862 Police revolvers some time back. At the time I thought it was one of the prettiest revolvers of any kind I had ever seen. Always regretted not picking it up. I have a couple of the longer barreled versions, but somehow, they just don't have the...

    Hey Britsmoothy, 4F powder

Seen a lot of frontloaders and cap'n'ball revolvers with the words "Black Powder Only" on them, but none with "2F or 3F only"

Question About HAZMAT Shipments (Black Powder)

Thanks to all for the replies. It was a first for me after numerous such shipments from various vendors and usually, being a small rural area, they don't even ask for ID and most times not even a signature. Makes sense I guess with all the porch pirate etc. activity going on. Heck it's been...

Question About HAZMAT Shipments (Black Powder)

I just received a shipment from Graf's, delivered by FEDEX, and for the first time I was told I needed to provide an ID, and the driver said he had been instructed to take a picture of it. Has anyone experienced this before? I have received these types of shipments in the past, and not that...

    Grease hole

Having a Dixie TMR, I love the idea of the patch, so simple, yet it never occurred to me. 🤪

Colt ships arms to the Confederates.

Yes, dealing with criminal Yankees was a problem back then. Durable and reliable? Some were some weren't, notably the fluted cylinder 1860s and the early Walkers.

    .36 vs. .44 "Stopping Power"

Yep, shot placement is the key. Doesn't matter how big bad and powerful your firearm is, if you don't hit where you need to aim.

    Musket Caps?

I see you are in Illinois. If you are anywhere near Lebanon Indiana you might check with Fall Creek Suttlery. They list a couple different brands of musket caps on their site but only sell them in the retail store, or at reenactments (765) 482-1861

    Permadex Anti-Sieze

Automotive Permatex will be fine, not really necessary if you use and clean your firearms regularly, but if they sit for a while or you didn't get them squeaky clean and or oil them, it does give a measure of insurance. Won't hurt anything. However, as you probably already know, it's a bugger...

    .36 vs. .44 "Stopping Power"

Meh, a 12 gauge with slugs is a preferred carry in big bear country. I wouldn't think you'd be giving that much away with a 16-gauge slug. ;)

    Hey Britsmoothy, 4F powder

Him. His channel. He makes his own, but I shall talk no further about it lest I break some rules.

    Hey Britsmoothy, 4F powder

I am in the same camp as you and @Britsmoothy on this, it really just comes down to common sense, and is a fun area to explore to get the right combination that shoots well for you, numbers and letters be damned. AND NO IT IS NOT DANGEROUS. BTW that is a good channel, lots of interesting info...

    Osage Orange for ramrods?

So long as you have straight grain running true the length of the rod, without any cross or angled grain, I can't see why it wouldn't work. From what little experience I had with it, I don't recall Osage being brittle or weak, quite the opposite.

I never could get past how they look personally !

All they need is a little smiley face drawn on them. :)

    Rust protection.

For a rust protector and lubricant, nothing beats the performance and price of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. It was engineered to do both of those things at a high level. Not a particularly romantic choice for muzzleloading, but it was originally developed for use on nuclear submarines, and a...
