Patch lube for round ball shooting..........Lawdy.

I would call it paste. It comes in a fairly large tin and I rub the patches across the top of the paste.

    Now this tops the cake...........

I sure am. When we were going to get married, I told her "Look honey, I don't drink, I don't gamble, I don't race cars, but I love guns and hunting. When I die, you will have a nice collection of fine guns that you can sell for good money. That is a lot better than having a drawer full of...

Patch lube for round ball shooting..........Lawdy.

Muzzleloading deer season in South Dakota is the month of December. One word pretty much describes South Dakota in December-COLD. Therefore for hunting in December I use mink oil that I get from TOW as a patch lube. I know that mink oil doesn't freeze while I have read that many of the other...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I am curious, where do you live that you need a "possession and acquisition license" in order to possess a muzzleloader? Sorry, but it sure doesn't sound like you live in our part of "Free America".

So let’s see em, what are you hunting with this season?

Wondering who made your Jaeger? It appears to be a beauty! What load do you use in it?

    Dark red finishes

This is a walnut stock refinished with LMF cherry stain and then many thin coats of tung oil. It probably isn't as dark as you want but it shows what the LMF stain will do on walnut.

alert! #10 caps, free hazmat at natchez

Sorry, but not unconstitutional. In the court case of South Dakota vs Wayfair the United States Supreme Court ruled that businesses have to collect state sales tax on sales made in states where they do "substantial business". They ruled "substantial business" to mean 200 or more transactions or...

    Percussion Cap brands

My experienxe is that CCI Magnum caps work the best for me. The only powders I have used them with is Triple 7 and real black powder. I have always found them to fit properly on the nipple and have never had any instances where they fail to go off and ignite the main charge.

Removing the barrel on a hooked breech rifle for cleaning, yes or no??

I remove the barrel every time on a hooked breech rifle for cleaning. It makes cleaning easy and more effective. I cannot imagine why you would not take advantage of that system of barrel attachment.

    Are YOU over 18?

I was in a fast food place one day and the clerk waiting on me said he was giving me the senior citizen discount. I explained that I was not olf enough to quallify for it. He said I was. We bantered back and forth a bit and I finally realized this young man was giving me a discount and I was...

    Are YOU over 18?

When I was 5 years old my dad (who walked with crutches at that time) would send me down to the gas station on the corner to buy him a couple of packs of camels. As I recall, they were 25 cents a pack at the time. The guys working at the station would always give me crap but sold them to me...

    SHARON MUZZLE LOADER

You are probably right but I do love "ambushing" deer.

Pictures of my restored 45cal TC Hawken.

You did a fine job restoring that TC Hawken. I remodeled a TC Renegade simply to make it more appealing to my eye. Like you, I wasn't trying to recreate a PC rifle from the past, just creating something I like. I imagine my "creation" to maybe represent a trade rifle the government purchased...

    Drone photos

This made me think of my uncle Johnny. He was raised in South Dakota and was a farmer on the prairie his whole life. We made a trip with him to the Black Hills of South Dakota which are mountains covered with aspens and evergreens. I asked him what he thought of it. He said "I hate it, you...

    Hanging deer with hide on.

It is over $100 here just to get the deer skinned and ground up. Summer sausage, brats, sticks, etc. will run you another $3-$5 per pound. A nice sized buck can cost $350 to $400 to get processed if you go with the "good stuff".

    Drone photos

Like anything else, drones could be abused when used in a hunting context. However, I see no problem in using a drone to survey the land, to spot well used game trails, to locate likely ambush spots and stand locations and so on prior to the start of the deer season. I do not own a drone and...

    Correct Flint size?

I absolutely hate to disagree with so many experienced flinters who have said the 5/8 inch flint is proper BUT I just built one of the new Pedersoli GPR flint rifle kits and my lock seems to need the 3/4 inch flint. I emailed Lyman while building the kit and they said use 5/8 inch flints. TOTW...
