    Pedersoli/Lyman Great Plains Kit

Thanks. I hope so. I plan to try it as is after I complete the build before I do any modifications.

    Pedersoli/Lyman Great Plains Kit

I like the idea of basically just creating the depression in the pan. If it doesn't work as it is, I will try that first. Thanks for the advice and the photos showing the end result.

    Pedersoli/Lyman Great Plains Kit

I plan to shoot it after I finish the rifle and see how it works. If there is a problem, I can remodel the pan. I already have some hickory ramrod blanks from TOW so making a new one shouldn't be too difficult.

    Pedersoli/Lyman Great Plains Kit

Me too. I always have heard the same thing about the sunset position but since I have never owned or fired a flintlock I am concerned. However, I have been studying photos of flintlocks and have seen several with the touch hole in the same place and some of these pictures show "custom" guns...

    Pedersoli/Lyman Great Plains Kit

I plan on at least trying it out before making modifications to the pan. It seems to be a good sparker so maybe everything will work out. The ramrod is a piece of junk. The brass tips are pretty crude and the wood is something I am not familiar with-a dark wood with almost no grain.

    Pedersoli/Lyman Great Plains Kit

I just purchased one of the new 50 caliber Lyman Great Plains flintlock rifle kit made by Pedersoli. Overall I am fairly please with it. However, there appears to be a couple issues with it. For one, the ramrod is way too short. As shown in the photo below the ramrod does not reach to the end...

    SOLD Folding Peep Sight

You say it will not work on long Hawken style tangs. The rifles it is pictured on appear to have quite long tangs. What makes it not applicable to the Hawken tangs? I am thinking of using it on a Pedersoli Signature Great Plains Rifle sold by Lyman.

Best Front Sight Solution for Me -Part 2 (pics)

I like your idea but the third photo confuses me. You said you used green but the picture appears to show 2 red inserts. Could you clarify and maybe show a photo from the side and maybe a 3/4 view so I could better visualize what was done. Thanks.

putting a finish on a lock...

This is an example of a TC lock that was stripped of its' finish and then browned with Plum Brown finish. I sure can't say it is historically correct BUT I like the slightly mottled look. Each to his own.

Where have all the production guns gone?

I agree that most of the regular vendors of traditional muzzleloading firearms and accessories are out of stock for just about all rifles and kits. Just out of curiosity, I went to www.gunbroker.com and looked up "Muzzleloaders". They have many production guns for sale, most of which are used...

    TC Renegade Remodel

Thank you for your kind words. I like the candy striped ramrod so I made it that way. Like you say, I don't know how "authentic" it is but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. As far as my "skills" go, I am practicing and learning as I go. The main thing I have learned is try to do...

    TC Renegade Remodel

I removed wood from the stock where the pewter fore end cap will be. I screwed 2 small screws in the front of the wood stock leaving about 1/3 of the screw exposed to serve as an anchor to help hold the fore end on. Then, I drilled 2 holes from the top to the bottom of the wood stock where it...
