At least we all agree it's not worth the asking price!

    What Lock is this?

54 ball, I do respect your assesment ,you can see much I know little about ,my assesment was based on the fact that a Pedersoli Kentucky style rifle,(no knock I own a Pedersoli and I love them)is going for 700.00 new nowadays but their not a custom by any stretch,if I could handle the rifle I 'm...

    What Lock is this?

Robby I believe AWI refers to American war of independence, I think the fittings look brass to me and I ' m no expert as to it's historic placement but it's a better rifle than 700.00!JMHO Don't take me to say it's worth the asking price either, I just am not that knowledgable, but it is...

    Flintlock Caliber

Well target and plinking say .45-.40 longrifle and a slow twist for those caliber s works out to 1-48",nowadays a Pedersoli as a starter gun new is about $700- $800 that's a production rifle but as good a production rifle as you can get and pretty. It's also big enough for deer in most states in...

    old vs new

I have only really noticed. One curiosity and that is from what I have looked at a lot of old guns tend to have more drop at the heel and comb than modern guns (excepting replicas of course.)even cartridge guns ,especially shotguns exhibit this thing, kind of makes them kick a bit more.

    .54 cal ball sizes

I was just working up loads for my LymanGPR .50 ,it has a bore of .519 and I used a .494 PB so ideally it's minimum patch thickness should be .112 and should be some what thicker for compression however I have not been able to get anything to shoot satisfactorily but .494 PB with a patch.008...

    Lyman GPR Stock

For what it 's worth ,you are very close to right and it's at this point that many get impatient and say "good enough" and it is good enough ,but ,if you want it truly nice and right have a go with scrapers and get some inlet black or lipstick and get yer patient pants on!If you don't you'll...

    Slight puzzle

Cannon, I do see your point ,how do you figure a compression factor in?

    Slight puzzle

The .008 patch was an improvement in accuracy and patch longevity ,the .018 patch was punching through going in and was not even serving as a patch 1/2 the time and barely so the rest of the time.if you have a .519 bore and a .494 ball the proper size would be .0125 or .013 if that is the next...

    Slight puzzle

Yeah I pour my own so I got lots of them ,I may see if I can find some .490's locally and maybe a new mold if they work out,but I can 't whine about these groups and might try the wasp nest too there's lots of them around this old farm,or just shred patches til it's smooth, thanks guys lots of...

The hunt or the kill ?

Without the possibility of the hunt,,there is no kill if it was just the kill why not shoot from the truck or plane or ATV or whatever.

    Slight puzzle

I took the GPR to the range for the second time today,I did better this time my final group at 50yds was five shots four touching in a line about 1 1/2" long l to rt and 1 flyer about an inch high and to the left, dang good group ,but the patches were blown to bits ,I took pictures but I'll put...

    Touch Hole liner?

I mentioned yesterday I had drilled mine out ,as it turned out it was a #48 drill ,as it turned out ,I had a bit better time today on my second range trip with ,but I'll do a post on that ,I do feel however, that the work was beneficial.

    Touch Hole liner?

I'm pretty sure someone out there makes a direct replacement that is drilled a bit different and improved over the" stock' unit,I just ran a slightly larger drill through the hole,I eyeballed it to be about a 1/16" drill and ran it almost through leaving just a bit of the original hole in the...

The hunt or the kill ?

My best times are spent in the woods wether I get game or not.To have the freedom to walk in the woods with a rifle is enjoyment and proof that there is still some freedom in this country,One of the best times was in a stand dozing when two squirrels ran up and over me and were as surprised as...

    My First Flintlock

Good choice,I'm more than happy with mine,if I could have found it at the same price with a .54 bbl ,I would have been ecstatic, but mine was a real good price and used but never fired, just curious, where did you buy yours in Corning.I drove trucks up there and I could see a gunshop from I-86...

    My First Flintlock

My take is this;TC,s are the strongest but leave much to be desired in historic looks, but ,they are also handiest in woods and reliable.I own one with a.50and a.54bbl Lyman's are well made strong and safe, they(GPR)come with a slow twist for patched ball and out of the box are ready to go.I like...
