    So. Vermont Primitive Biathlon 2024

It's tough enough to run in snowshoes when you're my vintage... And it's even tougher when there's NO SNOW on the ground! So I didn't run, but did the Woods Walk instead... And as you'll see in these images, the ground was bare (and really muddy in a few spots) for the So. Vermont Primitive...

    Revolver grease packing

So I'm guessing the red grease is an homage to "Sturm" of Sturm Ruger??? Oh wait, Bill Ruger changed it to black after Sturm passed... Nevermind! Old No7

    My 1st Ruger Old Army

I deeply regret not buying a shorter 5.5" Old Army when it was available for a LOW(er) price.... That said... The standard Old Army's are muzzle heavy, and the shorter one handled really sweet -- very nice, in fact -- any chance you could cut the bulged barrel down? And what length barrel...

    Love This Gun

Do you FISH ? ? ? If so, send those tails to the Mepps Fishing Lure Company -- and they'll send you back fishing lures! You can get the info off their website. I used a lot of Mepps Squirrel-tailed lures when I was a kid (the "Black Fury"). Cheers! Old No7

    Southern Vermont Biathalon Woodswalk

Hey, I remember that happening too -- it was either Ron or Chuck who was with me and ran up to you after I'd found it on the trail. But hey, I was born a "Lynn kid" -- and if it had been your wallet............... Looking forward to it again this year! Where else can I wear my Yank Sergeant...

That's too funny! My wife will say to me (when I do the same) "Did the vocal lubrication help any, or just make you feel better?" Old No7

Why are Uberti pistol boxes so flimsy?

    * Reality Check * I have SOLD (not just listed) nice empty boxes for S&W unmentionables for 5X to 10X the $5 or $10 I pay when I see them at flea markets or yard sales -- plus the buyer pays the shipping. The $$ made help fund my BP exploits. Some guys -- just want the boxes -- and I'm happy...

    It’s a Shooter…

Great -- me and my twin (Flint62Smoothie) will see you there! He'll be wearing a Badger Hat, and I'll be the Yank Sergeant with the sword. Great report on that Hawken. Old No7

BEST reply so far! And I agree with Bill -- they're cheesey boxes at best... Old No7

    TC Tang Sight

Well, I have another "opinion"... (~ That wasn't asked for ~) While the TC Tang Sight is not period correct, it looks OK on a Hawken or Renegade. But those other "more modern" tang sights -- geez Louise -- you might as well just put a "handle" on it (a rifle scope). To me, they ruin the fine...

I bought the best caps ever made.

A "crazy thought" leads to an "open question" for the forum............. Do they make musket caps nipples to fit TC rifles, and then could some type of insert be put onto the musket cap or into the cup of the TC hammer to make the combination work? Old No7

gun safes and cap and ball stories...

And I'll add this too... Keep track of any house keys left in the home. If they get in and take only a few small things -- if they find a key, you can bet they WILL BE BACK later. Change the locks and add some of those things I'd mentioned above. Old No7

gun safes and cap and ball stories...

As a 3rd generation locksmith who used to drill bank safes with my father (but always with an armed guard looking over our shoulders during daylight hours!) -- the first thing to realize is that most gun safes sold today ARE NOT SAFES -- they are called RSCs, or Residential Security Containers...

    Aqua Fortis

FYI, there's a new version of TruOil that has a low-gloss satin sheen, called "Genuine Oil". I've only gotten it through ebay and have never seen it in any shops. It has all the benefits of TruOil -- just less shine. Some builders on another muzzleloading forum has used it with good looking...
