If you mainly go to Rendezvous where a lot of mountain men and native American are portrayed, than IMO, I think tacking is OK. Guy was buiding a home, (IN bear country) have a morning cup of JOOE and out of the forest comes a bear, drags him down a ravine and starts to feed on him. long barrel vs shorter
In Theory every extra inch adds about 40 FPS to the ball. There is diminishing returns on to much powder, a old Dixie catalog said to shoot over snow, ot a white sheet, load until you saw unburned powder. That was your max charge.- Packrat

What on earth is happening with supply of primers?
