    Elephant Powder

ACTUALLY, back in '97 Goex started importing Swiss and packaged it in Goex cans with paper labels taped on. I have some...KIK was imported from Slovenia around 2000, but Goex was back into production early in '98 Elephant was "improved" after consultation by the "Mad Monk" to remove the bark...

    Elephant Powder

With price of powder and lack of availability, I would be inclined to use it. Those date codes are from the later, improved Elephant BP, so should be the black, shiny grains as opposed to the earlier dull grey stuff. 10-15gr of a better brand of fffg under the Elephant will give better...

FOR SALE 24 bore smoothbore barrels

I have several 24 smoothbore barrels for sale. These were originally for modern 24 bore SXS, but purchased as blanks, milled octagon at the breech and fitted with straight, flint style breech plugs. They are 26-1/8" long, 15/16" at the breech, .580" bore by my calipers, and weigh 1-5/8#...

An American Percussion Long Rifle That Has Been In My Family for Many Generations Possibly by John Hinds

To my eye its a post 1840 gun, possibly W Va, Ohio, or? It definitely is NOT an 18th century New England rifle.

    Dixie gun works poor boy

I had a .50 flint Dixie TMR back around 1980 and foolishly sold it a few years later. About 20 years ago I found a new one in a local shop, and bought it. I still have it, and have done my best offhand work with it. Yes, its muzzle heavy, but that is the magic that makes it work so well for...

SOLD Thompson Center 50cal Firestorm flintlock

The Firestorm has a conical shaped breechplug to allow the use of Pyrodex pellets, so not a "patent breech" type. The pellet is supposed to straddle the cone so as to be better positioned for ignition.

FOR SALE .58 cal renegade barrel

Is that a QLA barrel? It appears that the rifling starts a distance below the muzzle. edit: Never mind, I see that you do have it listed as such.

    Advice needed for stock chip

There is a reason why so many original guns had toe plates as that is an area apt to break out from even a minor bump on the toe. I would inlet a short toe plate and interlock it with the buttplate.

    Flintlock ****

The upper rifle appears to be a shortened Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle.

    Photos of Pennsylvania long-rifle

It appears to have been overly cleaned, and aggressively at that, so the old varnish and patina is long gone.

    Photos of Pennsylvania long-rifle

Its a fowler, not a longrifle. The fowler guard in addition to lack of cheek piece and patchbox defines it. I think I'm seeing a rounded toe which is also a fowler feature vs a flat toe that would be seen on a rifle or "smooth rifle". The engraved buttplate and trigger guard in additon to...
