    I agree just padding the vise with something won't work, need a set of jaws to incase the barrel, and yes T/C plugs are probably tighter than they should be and seeing that this one is probably rusted as well isn't going to help, looks like ill give Rice Barrels a call and order one of theirs...

    no offense taken, sorry if I came across like I was, your advise was spot on, I've read where people wanted to remove the plug for unnecessary reasons, and I also have seen some stupid things people have done, on one barrel I think the threads are to far gone, one they might be salvageable...

    For those who don't mind a little work to get your lead, a lot of old sailboat keels were lead filled, find a smaller one that's to far gone and cut the keel off
