.22 shorts used as caps revisited.

    Help needed

If i had a choice I would go with the 1/2 scale 6 pounder, 2oz of 2f powder will give you a good bang. I can run up to 4oz in my 1.25 bore, when blank firing and a max of 2oz when live firing. Been playing with cannons now for 6 years, and own 4 plus a mortar. Can never have to many?

I have used AP in my cannons, and they love it nice boom! and smoke for blank shots . Yes i do use BP but as i can not all get it AP is my second choice for mt 1.25/1.5 in cannons.

Some folks do shoot artillery in live fire competition

Will have to check, but trying to remember that there is a live fire contest here in Minnesota that is open to all size of cannon and mortars. Yes I do live fire demos with my miniature cannons and full size mortar. I have even been part of a crew that has lived fired a 1883 3in rifled cannon.

What's the difference between Pyrodex types?

I Mixed Pyrodex with BP once in my 1.25 in bore cannon, never again used a 50/50 mix(4oz charge), when it went bang the cannon rolled back 7 feet plus the ground shook

    Big Cannons!

I will try and find the photo's/video's and post them here of me working on a couple of 30 pound civil war cannons. Each one takes a 2.5 pound charge.

Prices on used guns are insanely high.

One can all ways go to a rendezvous /civil war events, you can get a good deal and the if you ask you may even get a discount for cash. Just be nice and you will get a lot of help.

    Pyrodex shortage, newbie question

The bang is most important to me, as long as i can hit the target I am happy, I use what i can get(afford),find, i use up to 4 oz powder in my cannons, and they don't care if it is BP or pyrodex, Same with my rifle/pistols. Have to use BP with flint lock toys.

    Fuse or not?

I use fuze on my 5.8in bore/24 pound mortar, and on my cannons 1.25/1,5in bore, and i do live fire demo's. am looking at converting my half scale to flintlock. The public love watching the fuze burn down, if every think is done right no miss fire. I brought 600 ft of fuze 5 years ago...

    Blank rounds and Fire danger

Will and try to find photo's of the 2 30 pound cannons being fired. We use a foil wrapper for the 2.5 pound charge(50/50 powder/oat meal) big bang and at least 15 feet of flame out of the muzzle. Does not wake the dead, bad pun as there are in a cemetery.
