    A Guessing Game

I had a short shooting session with my H&A Minuteman two weeks ago. Here's the gun. I haven't shot this gun in the last three years. So, I set the first target out at 35-yards to check the sights, and took five shots. Here's that target. I picked up the patches after each shot. Can you...

    Those LONG HOT SUMMERS

I’m a paper puncher. I know some guys don’t care much for shooting paper targets, but that's something I really enjoy. I can spend long hours on our hunting club’s rifle range playing with different guns and loads, and putting holes in paper. The problem is – those long hot and humid summers...

    Ball size

Bronko, you have no idea of the restraint I exercised by not replying after formulating a half dozen possible responses. ;)

    Finally!

Isn't it funny how the pain goes away the minute you open the package?

    Like a kid

I make sure the mirror is fogged by the shower before looking at it. Damn, I look good.

Help me keep a good thing going...

Unless the barrel is made of cast iron. 😁

    HATFIELD

An early one by the Hatfield company. And a flintlock by Pedersoli.

    How Made This "Hawken"

HOW/WHO. At this point what difference does it make? 😁 I can't guess as to what the W.A.S. stands for? It appears to have been made by W.A.S. for Joe O'brien, not made by O'Brien.

    Range Rod Oopsie

Actually, "sometimes out" would be more accurate. ;)

A Day With The Hefty Hawken

That's pretty much the plan nchawkeye. Except that I'm going to use 93 grains. None of the other nine guys in my hunting club know much about muzzleloaders. They are impressed with my precision when I use uneven loads like that. 😁

A Day With The Hefty Hawken

And I didn't even mention that on a few of those shots I forgot to compensate for the coriolis effect. ;)

Preliminary accuracy results with the Thumper Carbines

Not a thing wrong with those 100 yard groups. Good shooting.

    Just For Kicks

You guys might get a kick out of this. I put it together about 20 years ago to post on another forum, and just ran across it in my files.

    Best value flintlock

I'm "that guy" who would never consider a $1,000 flintlock. I don't care about PC, just love shooting reliable and accurate muzzleloaders. I have about a dozen caplocks and three flintlocks. All were well below a thousand bucks. Here are my flinters. Which one do I like best and shoot the...

A Day With The Hefty Hawken

I haven’t posted a shooting report in quite a while. But here’s one I couldn’t resist. I bought this gun in 2015 and named it The Hefty Hawken. The elderly gent I bought it from said he had it made in 1976, but he couldn’t remember the name of the builder. The only thing he seemed to be sure...
