Groups are better at 50 yards than 25 yards

If you're holding on the center of the bull, try a 6 o'clock hold. It's much more precise with a peep at any range.

I know that. But it's still a way for the guys on our rifle range to let everyone know he's about to touch one off.

    Stupid question: Lefty loosey?

To release Loctite, hold the tip of a soldering iron against the screw head.

FIRE IN THE HOLE!!! (A requirement on our hunting club's rifle range to alert the beer drinkers sitting back at camp 25 yards away from the shooting bench. Don't want to spill any beer.)

    Naming your guns?

Most of my dozen+ frontstuffers are un-named. But I do have names for a few that I'm particularly fond of. There's "Hefty", and of course there's "Sister One", "Sister Two" and "Sister Three".

    Parts search gone bad

You could have saved yourself a lot of trouble if you had bought a Black Bess in the first place.

    UK Park Rifle

That's a really good looking rifle Feltwad. Do you know the rate of twist? Does the term "Park rifle" stem from some form of intended use?

Messing with my squirrel load again

DL, there are two solutions to your problem. (1) Become proficient with a slingshot and marbles. (2) Get a blowgun and some broadhead darts. I found the blowgun easier to master than a slingshot, and it's deadly at the ranges you're dealing with.

Pure Soft Lead for Hand Casting

Jacob, that ten pounds of pure soft lead from TOW would cost you almost $50 with shipping to SC. That's about the same price per pound for the five-pound pure lead ingots from your local Ace hardware.

Pure Soft Lead for Hand Casting

I'm with B P Maniac. Get to know a local roofer. They pull old lead roof jacks all of the time and are usually happy to give them to you. It's pure and soft, but a bit nasty to turn into ingots. Here's one of my scores. The ingots are about 1.5 lbs. each. Total clean lead is a bit over 70 lbs.

    Hawken rifles in auction

You know, those pages on each gun with pictures and text are a treasure trove of information. I hope someone more tech savvy than I will save them to a permanent file here under the title The Collection of Larry Ness. It took me a while to figure out how to get full screen view of all of the...

    No! No! Get them away

I eat beef, pork, chicken, many forms of seafood and a wide variety of wild game. Likewise, I sure don't limit my shooting pleasure to one flavor. I have flintlocks, caplocks, in-lines and even those dreadful cartridge thingies. Feel free to judge me. I care not.

Wow! That's a fantastic collection for one guy to have acquired.

    English vs American stock styles.

Well, in 1716 a little known Pennsylvania gunsmith by the name or Richard Barker was building a rifle of the British design. As he was taking the final step of installing the traditional flat butt plate he discovered a section of rotted wood. Not wanting the work already completed to go to...

Lead, think about this next time you shoot!

Man, I had no idea. Those guys put in a rough day of work. I wonder what the pay scale was like compared to various other occupations.
