    french or english flints

Indeed, Brit, you march to your own drummer, and there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Your outside-the-box thinking and personal experimentation/experience is what started changing my mind about powder granulation (the "evils" of 4f and all that), for example. :thumb:

    Old DuPont can

I believe you are spot on. I initially thought they were Roman, as my previous post indicates, but I now see what you're talking about (i.e., confusingly stylized Fs). No wonder they later changed the labeling. Folks back then were likely as confused by their font as we are. 😄

gun show find - percussion long gun

Truly unique. I've never seen anything like it. Good find. 👍

    Arizona checking in

Welcome aboard from a fellow Arizonan. :thumb: Try out our sister site: Click Here where modern muzzleloaders can be discussed. Hopefully the traditional bug will bit you also, in which case this is the place to be. Btw, I hope you guys fared better down in Oro than we did in the Valley...

    triple 7 powder 3f

I know Pyrodex is lighter (due to density?) in actual weight for a given volume than similarly grained BP (Pyro P vs 3f, Pyro RS/Select vs 2f). I recall reading somewhere that a 100 grain measure threw about 100 grains in actual weight of Goex, but it only threw something like 70 grains of...

Nitrating paper ..besides hurting stupid takes time!

Search for potassium nitrate. There's a guy selling it by the lb right now (~$18 shipped). I don't remember how much I paid for the pound I bought for making slow match several years ago, but I do know I still have most of it left. A little goes a loooonnnng way. 👍

    Touch hole size ??

1/16" (~1.6mm) is pretty standard. Some go up to 5/64" (~2mm), which is what the factory vent on my Pedersoli Brown Bess appears to be. Like Larry says, make sure you shoot it before you do anything (if you haven't already), as it may shoot fine as is.

New addition to my smoothie arsenal

I agree with Sam. Looks like an Indian gun. They often don't exhibit the most precise workmanship and they can have issues that need to be addressed to get them running up to snuff, but I consider them well worth the asking price (about $600 new for a carbine like that), so for $150 it looks...

    Old DuPont can

Just from looking at pics online it appears they used a stylized Roman numeral system where one of the I's is integrated with the F, so F would be Fg, IF would be FFg, and IIF would be FFFg. That's the impression I get anyway. :dunno:

    Agind brass

Yeah, I decided to try some Birchwood Super Blue on brass a couple years back. Boy howdy! Instant black (with some mottling because I didn't degrease it throughly).

    Epoxy heat sealing....

Well, crud...I'm sorry the stain precluded the epoxy finish. I was hoping to see the final product, as it sounds interesting.

A .72 double rifle would make a nice anti-squirrelcraft gun.
