    The temptation!

Just to have something different perhaps. I know I've never seen a 16ga Zouave.

How do you keep the ramrod from moving forward under recoil

Do you happen to have an old bow quiver lying around? Cut off one of the rubber arrow clips and snap it over your rammer just behind one of the thimbles. That should keep it from moving under recoil to get the rammer out you just pop it off. If not, you could cut your own from a thick piece of...

    The temptation!

"I can resist anything except temptation." - Oscar Wilde Great, now I'm picturing Brit with a tiny Oscar Wilde sitting on his shoulder. 😄

    Cabelas NEW gun policy

I feel like we're devolving into Rule 14 territory here... While I'm not thrilled about Cabela's policy, I understand the reasoning behind it. We are living in "interesting times" for sure. 🤷‍♂️

Tight bore -- hard to seat sabot

Welcome aboard. For questions about inlines, sabots and other such newfangled stuff, try our modern muzzleloading sister site: Click Here. We cannot discuss these items on this forum, as we're dedicated to traditional kit, but you'll find answers in the link. If you have or get into...

    Powder granulation importance?

I'm only personally concerned with the latter. The former is one of those things that sounds plausible, but it doesn't seem to pan out in actual use, so I no longer worry about it. Once I burn off my remaining 2f I'm going to start using 3f for everything. If someone offered me a great deal...

Hi-dee Ho, everyone! From sunny Florida

Welcome from ~1500 miles to the west. :thumb: I can't claim to have been raised by panthers, but I've been told more than once that I must have been raised in a barn. 😃

A Warning about Cleaning and a Question

It's hard to tell about the vent location just by looking at the outside of the gun. Unless this gun has a patent breech, drop your ramrod down the (empty) barrel, mark the end of it at the muzzle with a pencil, then line the rammer up along the top of the barrel with the muzzle mark lined up...

Have no fear, lemony Ajax is here!

    Why Dawn Dish detergent

Did it make your gun fresh and clean as a whistle?

    Drum nipple

If there's a flintlock version of the same gun, yes, you can replace the drum with a liner and the caplock with a flintlock. If not, then it could still be done but would (or could) require a lot more work (finding a suitable flintlock and fitting it to the gun). I've considered doing this...

    Why Dawn Dish detergent

Good old Madge. Talk about a blast from the past. :thumb:

    Why Dawn Dish detergent

I don't know that it's "better" than anything else, but Dawn is the best-selling dishwashing liquid in the US, so lots of people know about it. In fact, I'd say Dawn has become nearly as synonymous with dishwashing soap here as Kleenex has become synonymous with facial tissue or Q-Tip with...

    Frame stretch

I've never had a brass framed revolver, but my understanding of "stretch" is that it is an increase in barrel/cylinder gap over time. As the gun is fired, the barrel and arbor get pushed one way, while the rest of the gun is being pushed the other way, I guess. Another thing I've read about...

Did the unthinkable to my GPR but I love it!

I remember "crimped" hair (my sister even had a crimping iron, or whatever they were called, back then). I miss a whole lot of things about the '80s, but that's not one of them. 😄
