Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
there is a couple of ways of doing it, from what i have read browning was not done till latter into the 1800s, but some say as early as the 1790s, so most likely these guns would have been charcoal blued, left in the white, or temper bronzed. either way i like it like this, but temper bronzed is...
here is some Kibler SMR parts i cleaned up and colored today. i completely dissembled the lock and trigger for the process. they are not browned, they are temper bronzed like they would have been done back in the day. i also draw filed the butt plate and trigger guard and got rid of all seams...
i used to clean with WD 40 it worked good. then i got the idea to use it for a patch lube, it burned my patches up! it doesn't work for that. i lube with 40-60 % dawn dish soap and water. you can shoot all day and never ever swab. accurate too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
i dry balled my 36 Kibler once. i ended up pulling the breach plug. it is not welded, or at least mine wasn't. but the breach where you need to put a wrench has a taper, so a special breach plug wrench to remove it, but that also being said, i did not have the wrench and used a large adjustable...
Steve Zihn the famous gun builder and hunter told me that a RB was the perfect projectile when it impacted an animal. he said it was already the shape and size that people were trying to achieve with expansion out of a high-powered rifle bullet, that it needed no expansion it was already the...
i killed these 2 bucks a couple of weeks ago with a 40cal. at 80 yards, PRB and 62gr. of 3f goex. the one hit in the neck dropped in his tracks and no spine or bone was hit. the other in the heart and he went 50yds. funny how people think you need some large caliber to kill an animal, you don't...
here is one my friend mulebrain has. he brought it over to my cabin and range one day for some fun. it is only a 50 cal. but heavy! it is an under hammer and was made in the 50s i think. i can't remember any other particulars, you will have to click on the blue view to see,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
the green mountain Kibbler barrel in 45 has a 1-72 this is one of the reasons i asked. i have built several of them and in the middle of one now and have another on the way. this is the SMR i speak of, they shoot good with 55gr. of 3f, but i really have no idea why Jim went with a 1[72 twist in...
i let a nice 6 point go this morning, had him in the bad 40 cal. sights and lowered the gun, just felt like i had to give something back. might sound crazy but i did it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
i had read that 1-48 came along when TC rifles came along. they used it to stabilize conical bullets. and from what i also read the RB will stabilize pretty good with just about ant twist,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
i have saw twist rates up and down the scale. from 1-48 to 1-72 i know the 1-48 is fairly standard now days. what do you think of a 1-72 for round ball in 45?
