CVA 45 cal barrel
I had to replace the drum on my CVA 45 kentucky. I used the TOW drum. So far, so good on up to 70 grains.. Buuuuuuuuuuuut, it's a bear to get clean because the fouling fills all those exposed threads. And then drying it becomes an issue as I don't want damp residue in those crevices...- Versanaut

An Egg, a piece of bread and a paper bag.....
My OA experience is similar to @BillinOregon 's except our breakfast was a 1/2 dixie cup of milk, the hard boiled egg, and bread were in a paper lunch bag. We weren't told there was a small cup of milk in the bag..... Between those experiences, and some crazy similar military experiences...- Versanaut

Anyone do a Sitting Fox Muzzleloaders Build ?
I built a Sitting Fox kit a number of years ago for my 9 y/o. Was a CVA squirrel barrel and CVA lock, but the stock (Full length) and all the furniture was what you'd find in about any kit. Needed to finish inletting the lock and all the furniture, shape the stock, finish the brass, etc etc...- Versanaut

Update on the Lock, Sent it the lock back to it's maker (Chambers) to be fixed and 'overhauled'. Found and addressed a worn sear nose, refreshed the frizzen (refaced and retempered) replaced weak frizzen spring... The lock is like new! MAN the sparks it throws now! Huh..... I didn't consider the trigger. Tried it a bunch afterwards to try to replicate the problem. I had not yet set it because I had just fired, buuuuuuuuuut, what if the trigger hung from the last shot I wonder. It did go to half **** OK. I put it there to close the frizzen. hmmmmm.- Versanaut

What lead do I have ?
If you can scratch it with your fingernail you should be OK. If you can get a set of drafting pencils... an easy way to ballpark it is to try to draw on the lead. If it draws, keep moving up till it scratches or does not draw. The results can be compared to the chart below:- Versanaut
