    So Much for Sharing

Sorry gang, gotta vent. Was informed this week that Youtube took down a video of mine for including a minor (my 9 y/o son at the time) participating in a 'dangerous activity'. It was a short musical montage of still photos of us building his .32 cal caplock. Out of a couple dozen photos...

I Hope To Meet With Lead Casting Folks

A bit late to the party here. I'm in Florida myself, almost due east on the other coast. There is a lot of great advice in this thread. So I'll leave all that to what's been said. Some Florida advice though.... Cast all the roundball you think you'll need for the year in the winter...

lefty shooting a right handed rifle

Son is a lefty. Before we acquired a 'backwards' rifle for him, we cut the toes off an old tube sock and he'd put that on before he would shoot. Might consider a leather Archery arm guard if you need some style points. Big style points if you rock a tube sock with colored stripes at the top!

Suddenly started getting pan flash ?

The symptom of feeling the powder picking the vent for the first few shots and then not feeling it after a number is exactly what happens on my flinter. I get a pretty solid ring of fouling that grows about where the ball initially sits. After it builds enough (15 shots or so) the powder gets...

    From CA moving to Florida

Welcome to the forum and to Florida! As a couple other folks mentioned, there are a couple ranges in the space coast area. Titusville Rifle and Pistol Club has a BP shoot on the 2nd and 4th Sunday, every month, rain or shine.

Should the powder charge be equivalent to the caliber?

Lots of good info here. I have a 4" 36 cal derringer. She takes 10 grains of 3Fg. Much less and the patched ball starts to interfere with the flashhole and I start to have missfires. (The flash hole is not quite at the very back of the breech).

    NIPPLES

Welcome from Florida! What part? Space Coast here.

    Oxidized Balls.

I believe it is the same danger. Just WAY easier to transfer into your system as the white oxidation comes off so easily. Easier to get more in your system.

At what point to stop cleaning?

My understanding is the very light grey that tends to be left in the barrel is the graphite from the powder that does not dissolve in the water. If you have ever used graphite powder on the door lock or pinewood derby car (hahaha) They you will know that stuff doesn't come off easily, even with...

Can you see what I'm doing wrong?

I'm not sure the the recent video demonstrates you are not flinching. I am of the opinion you still cannot rule out a flinch as your 'caplock' is nothing like a flintlock with regards to the effect the lock's action has on our natural instinct to shield our eyes against the flash/heat/and...

Can you see what I'm doing wrong?

... And checked wiping and not wiping between shots? This very thing fixed a rifle for me 2 weeks ago. I had tried EVERYTHING, then had a match where it was a straight 20 shot string... Didn't swap targets which drives be to clean the bore. Best group in 2 years of shooting that thing. Wild...

Can you see what I'm doing wrong?

While a lot of folks will focus on your form, because that is what you are asking for coaching, I can't help but ask, in all of that shooting, how much have you REALLY played with the load development? 5 shot groups in 5 grain increments, Do that with FFFg and AGAIN with FFg, then AGAIN with a...

    New guy to muzzleloaders

@Loyalist Dave said it PERFECTLY Sorry, Proud Papa plug here.....My son grew up on muzzleloaders. I had him help me build his first gun. He started attending matches at 9. To my wife's dismay, she dropped him off at a match one day before I got there and he immediately hopped up in a range...

    Lets talk firestarting

If you are in the land of palm trees, the fuzz/fur that grows between the palm husks on most palm trees is the best stuff I've ever used to start a fire. Many folks refer to it as monkey's fur. Much like Tow, only much finer strands.

    New Flintlock Need FFFFg powder

Black Powder TV did a video on this. He shows them all in sequence at the end. I use 3F in the bore and pan. (45cal)

    Swabbing between shot for safety.

Interesting reads here. I’ve never given this much thought, and I’m not exactly sure how I personally feel about it. Each of my rifles likes something a little different. One I can’t even drive a ball home unless I swab the barrel between shots. Another completely fowls up if I try swabbing...

    Howdy from Florida

If you are on the eastern-ish central Florida side, we have an informal shot twice a month at the Titusville Rifle and Pistol Club. 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month! Usually 5 or 6 of us there.
