    New Pietta"s cap size

If it's like the other pistols out there, the 10s are probably way too tight, and the 11s are too loose.

    New Pietta"s cap size

    CCI #10 or Remington #10?

    New Pietta"s cap size

Remington #10s and RWS 1075s seem to be effectively non-existent anymore, so quite frankly... ...it's best to just get the aftermarket nipples to accommodate CCI #11s, which seem to be the only caps even still being manufactured.

    New Pietta"s cap size

I was about to say the same thing about Remington #10 caps. I've never seen them.

    New Pietta"s cap size

I don't think either Pietta or Uberti come with nipples that fit any available caps. That's probably a big reason why Slixsprings nipples are on the market. Maybe these two manufacturers are trying to make nipples that are half-assed fits for all caps so that they can at least partially...

    .44 Peitta PC pistol confusion

Well, as many people as there are who like the polished steel look, it seems like those same people would go for a stainless open top. As for the poor man's ROA idea, I don't think that's what motivated Uberti to make the NMA in stainless. They really are very different revolvers, even if they...

    .44 Peitta PC pistol confusion

I've always wondered why the Uberti Remington NMA is the only stainless cap and ball revolver that seems to be marketed anymore. If anyone made a stainless Colt 1860, it would go like hotcakes

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

That mushrooming is just an indicator that the cap is cushioning the blow. Unless it starts to crack along the radius of that mushroomed area, that shouldn't be a problem.

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

Cool idea just taking out the nipples. I don't know why that wasn't already mentioned. It's not like they're hard to remove and then replace. That cushioning on the frame that's been mentioned would round out the whole deal.

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

Well, marksmanship and training, in general, are the same for BP revolvers and unmentionables, both, and dry fire is very highly recommended for unmentionables. It stands to reason, therefore, that dry fire with BP revolvers would be the smart thing to do as well. You don't have to be training...

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

The idea of dry fire is to practice with the gun you actually shoot. Getting some beater that has a different trigger pull weight and quality of break won't help much.

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

I just tried it. I didn't feel a thing! I'm going to patent my new light-weight helmet! But seriously, is that thin layer of primer compound all that much of an improvement over the thin metal? And aren't those blank caps, crimped as they are when they come from the puncher, already slightly...

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

How does using blank caps result in the same effect as striking unprotected nipples? Wouldn't the blank caps provide the same level of cushioning as live caps?

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

Just puch out some blank ones with the Shooters22reloader cap puncher.
  15. T

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

That's a solid idea. You could probably do well to punch out some blank caps with one of that punchers from Shooters22reloader so you don't have to blow precious live caps.

Armi San Paolo 1860 Army revolver

Good luck with the experiment. At least you'll have an extra set for your other revolvers when you finish testing which set works.

Any other heretics out there that oil their barrels?

Frog Lube is what I use in my bore. I also lube around the chamber mouths with some Bore Butter or other equivalent before ramming the ball home over a cork disc in my revolvers. For patches in my flintlock, I use oil--olive oil, that is.

Armi San Paolo 1860 Army revolver

No he doesn't. I didn't once hear him yell at the videographer, "Did you get it?? Did you get it this time??? Well, did you???!!!"

    Midway M/L Revolvers On Sale

Midway is where I got my own 1860 last year. When they have their sales, it behooves one to jump on them before the opportunity passes.
