    The paper fiber wads are basically a wax ball. I got some lanolin, but haven’t tried it yet. I tried using no wad, no lube and it made loading difficult and my pattern was less dense.

    I hate to add another variable, but a good lubricant helped close some of the holes in my pattern.

    One thing someone always mentions when someone acquires an old muzzle loader is to check if its loaded by using the ram or a dowel as a gauge to find if there appears to be a couple of inches of obstruction in the breach.
