Your favorite “eating” game, and how you prepare it

Definitely fricasseed. I made chicken fricassee for years, before I realized I'd just been practicing until I could get my hands on some cottontails...

Your favorite “eating” game, and how you prepare it

All we have in this chunk of the desert is mule deer, and they taste just fine. Doesn't get much better than a smoked venison roast from one.... I've been told that sometimes they pick up flavors from what they eat - for example, if you shoot one where there's a lot of sage, it can have kind...

Your favorite “eating” game, and how you prepare it

When I was a kid, we'd throw carp in a 55 gallon barrel with a hose slowly dripping into it to keep the water fresh, and feed them corn meal for a week or so. Then we hung them by their tail, cut their throats like hogs and bled them. Seemed to firm up the meat, and get rid of the muddy taste.

Your favorite “eating” game, and how you prepare it

Sounds like a Mississippi pot roast, using venison instead of beef. Sounds good...

    Legal powder amount

"The rules" in the 40's were laid down by the German occupying army, and the penalty for being caught with a gun was execution. I'm not sure how that's relevant to this discussion.

Colt Walker had a long run as most powerful handgun

Not by the Comanches, though... per Wikipedia, I was surprised to read he was only 30 years old at the time.

Colt Walker had a long run as most powerful handgun

There is now an official gun of Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott signed a resolution on Sunday naming the 1847 Colt Walker handgun the official handgun of Texas, he announced via Twitter.

Colt Walker had a long run as most powerful handgun

I did some light reading on the internet, and someone made the comment that the Comanches Walker and his Texas Rangers fought were hit-and-run specialists; they didn't do sieges. So a company of Rangers, each with a loaded pair of Walker Colts, was most likely going to get through any encounter...

Colt Walker had a long run as most powerful handgun

Heck, I could hit one farther away than that with my trebuchet... might take me a couple of shots to dial it in, though. :)

    I got an offer I couldn't refuse...

Kind of makes me envious of the old boy, that he found you. Between contracting for years and pursuing woodworking as a hobby, I have a lifetime accumulation of woodworking tools, from thickness planers and table saws down to carving chisels. Not to mention mechanic's tools, from always having...

    H&A Buggy Underhammer rifle

That isn't much of an explanation; they're all fun to shoot. 😁

Nameless, I sent you a PM.

    Legal powder amount

I've bought at a store that would only sell one lb. of black powder per person. I was told that if I wanted to buy two, I'd have to bring a buddy. But after looking up the state law, I'm thinking either that was store policy due to an abundance of caution, or there was a stricter local ordnance.

    Legal powder amount

Two gun shops with the same story might just mean a bogus warning got spread - like the instances last year of small towns on the west coast mobilizing to fight off busloads of Antifa or BLM that were supposedly on their way. Of course to some, the fact that the busloads never showed up just...

    H&A Buggy Underhammer rifle

Ok, why under hammer long guns? I've read that boot pistols were intended to be easier to pull out, but I haven't seen anything that explains why a rifle would have an under hammer.

    Legal powder amount

I've seen several claims online that California residents are limited to one pound of black powder. Which makes no sense. Since it's commonly sold in one lb. cans, anyone who wanted one powder for the barrel and another for the priming pan would become a criminal... California Code, Health...

Would you shoot this 1970's Japan import Tower Flint ?

I have a couple of those 70's Japanese Tower pistols. They were probably made by a different company though, because they' have round barrels. They're a hoot to shoot. I like to load them up pretty strong, hand them to friends who've never shot anything black powder before, and watch the...
