How to carry a long rifle on a horse.

One of the best double insults I ever read was in WoodenBoat Magazine. A live-aboard writing a regular column while he rebuilt his sailboat was grousing about some stupid stunt his cat had pulled, and he commented that "cats are almost as dumb as a smart horse." I'm betting that generated...

    This is insane...

I have a couple of Japanese repro Tower pistols from the '70's. The first lucky buyer can have one for only $999.00, or 1799.00 for the pair...

How to carry a long rifle on a horse.

"Blanket questions"? He asked only one, about the best way to tote a long rifle on horseback. Which seemed like a totally reasonable question to everyone else on this thread... And you come back with crap like, "honestly, have you ever loaded gear on your horse?" Really?

How to carry a long rifle on a horse.

I wonder how much time long hunters spent on horseback though, as opposed to walking and leading packhorses through the woods? I don't know much about how they operated, but a long gun on horseback in dense woods seems it could be problematic.

How to carry a long rifle on a horse.

That seems like an aggressively unhelpful response to what I considered a reasonable question.

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

It's a gun I'd love to own. The builder may not have done a perfect job, but my hat's off to his ambition and dedication. Back when he was probably doing this (pre-internet, I'm sure), there wasn't nearly as much support and information freely available.

    Fried Okra Patties

I've found that you can substitute nopalitos (diced young prickly pear cactus pads) in most recipes that use okra as a thickener. Here in the southwest, you're more likely to find them in your local grocery store than you are okra.

    Fried Okra Patties

Yum... definitely gonna be making some of these. The only changes I'll make will be adding a light dose of cayenne powder, and using a minced garlic clove instead of the powder... because I always have whole garlic on hand, and don't have any garlic powder.

    Kibler Kit help

I think Jim Kibler gets away with using tapered hardware store-type screwdrivers because he has a soft touch and years of experience. Unless the original poster is another Jim, I definitely second the suggestion that he should get a set of flat-ground ('gunsmithing' type) screwdrivers.

    Kibler Kit help

I bought a Kibler .40 SMR kit a while back. It was my first build (or maybe I should say 'assembly'? ;)), but there might be something helpful for you in my build thread anyway. https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/yet-another-kibler-longrifles-kit-build.124055/

    Kibler SMR Build-Part 1

Yes, you could break it with your foot - if you propped one end of the case up, and stomped the middle of it with your full weight on that foot... Remember: they not only broke the case, but the stock inside it. Those cases are plenty strong enough to survive any normal shipping abuse...

    Kibler SMR Build-Part 1

I use my crate as a case to carry my SMR back and forth in vehicles. Lined it with some egg crate foam from a 1905 Swedish unmentionable I bought on gunbroker.com a while back, and the full rifle fits snugly with the end of the barrel tucked into one corner. Did someone plan it that way, or...

    Cabelas NEW gun policy

Anti-vaxxers? Of course, they're sometimes one and the same. I spent yesterday evening reading the 'Covid vaccination - finally scheduled' thread last evening, all 25 pages. Remind me never to do something like that again...

Resistance is futile... Weird... mine didn't have those machining marks on the bottom.

Kibler Southern Mountain rifle kit and supplies arrived. It's going to be a fun build.

Very nice. On my Kibler southern mountain rifle, the only real PITA was the butt plate. Took me forever to fit it, and I'm still not completely satisfied with the job I did.. Question: has Jim added a toe plate to the kit, or is that something you ordered extra? I've seriously considered...

    Ordered my Kibler kit

Google 'scary sharp.' It's a method of sharpening using different grades of sandpaper over an extremely flat surface (such as glass), instead of using stones. After I started using it, I was embarrassed by what I had considered sharp most of my life. It takes my planes and chisels to a whole...
