    Cold blue to blacken brass

Used BC brass black on all the brass parts last summer. I like the way it’s wearing. Looks kinda fake if your looking for pristine wearing, but it’s on a production pistol, right?

    Cold blue to blacken brass

Brass black wears off fairly quickly without additional protection. Especially on surfaces that receive regular wear. But I have been happy with the tarnished look left after the BC product has started wearing off.

GRIT TV and the Internet Movie Firearms Database

Anybody watch the old western movies on this free over the air channel? There are alot of old classics. I enjoy watching and looking for and trying to identify the old black powder firearms depicted in some of the films. See a lot of Colt 1875’s, and Sharps, and of course the colt peacemakers...

    NewB from UP

I think they have some black powder shooters at the negaunee rod and gun. what kind of shotguns ya looking at. I just started shooting double barrel side by sides, both flint and percussion, at sporting clay courses, no hunting yet, but soon.

He hunted sometimes while walking in snow shoes. I think that would be awesome if one was carrying a muzzleloading shotgun! He used a modern gun.

    Traditions Trapper

Been shooting sporting clays with my muzzleloading side by side shotguns for the last few weeks. I got to say that shooting from a bag on foot at sporting clay courses for me is a bit strenuous. So today I went to the pistol range and shot my Trapper .50 cal Pistol. I shot a four shot group...

My wads have vegetable oil and beeswax. The only reason I use grits is that it was what I had and just kept using it . So sometimes when I shoot, the smoke smells like black powder of course, but with a hint of Popcorn smell. 😂

    Shotcups

I think that for hunting, if I was getting the results I was going for, and I was using plastic, and I got a little plastic in the barrel, I would just clean it out. I made a mention about the plastic melting thing earlier to the OP, and I think maybe that might be more of an issue if shooting...

    Shotcups

One of the schools of thought out here on that subject is that plastic shotcups melt a little, when shot using black powder, leaving plastic in the bore. If this is true, it would apply to almost alll smoothbores. If your gun patterns well with the plastic shotcup, and you don’t mind the...

A gap between 10-15 grains of 3f powder and the round ball will probably not explode your gun. Conventional wisdom amongst black powder shooters is always having the projectile firmly pressed against the powder charge. In that gun, like most cap/ball revolvears, the rammer will not seat the ball...

Also , if you load that gun with 15 grains of powder and just a ball, the rammer will not seat the ball snuggly against the powder.
