Thank you, I’ve noticed the name Wick in some posts but wasn’t aware of the last name or what he referenced. I’ll look him up, Thanks again!

Could something like this be from 18th century?

11” overall 5 1/2” blade, 5 1/2” handle Hidden tang, Water Buffalo horn handle. Assuming it would be after fur trader era… Unless someone brought it with them from across the pond. Is it possible local blacksmiths could have produced something like this in 19th century? I started this months...

    First French Scalper attempt

It looks great! Remember there’s pros and cons to everything…if you cut off tang and later the handle split when using it, you could have cut off a finger and lost your hand modeling career lol Also, thank you for posting pictures of your sheath and for mentioning video, that will be my next mission

    First French Scalper attempt

I’ll have to do some more research for the next one. I may have misinterpreted the image and description in the fur traders sketch book, lol. I really appreciate the information and the positive feedback you’ve offered. Thank you!

    First French Scalper attempt

That makes sense, I was using picture from fur trader sketch book for ideas. I was attempting to make a blade that I haven’t seen many people make. Maybe I’ll try boucheron in the future. Thank you for the complement from down under!

    English vs French scalping knives

Beautiful knife! I wonder if the difference between the tapered tang and not tapered in the English scalper could be from the maker using a shorter piece of steel, hammering it thin at the end could make tang 1/2-1” longer then not tapering. Curios if long blades are more likely to have tapered...
