    Cannon balls

My 1lb gun I have used a patched ball and bare ball, I found no difference in accuracy, I always use the bare ball, less chance of flaming debris everywhere. Gun is accurate enough to hit a 30 gal drum at 300 yards, and I have hit a 55gal drum at 900 yards about 1 in 3 shots, all were very close.

    Remember your First ML kill?

Boy, long time ago, my first ml rifle was a flintlock in .45 cal, shot my first whitetail deer, a big doe at 30 yards, prb with 70 gr of 3f, I remember she ran after the shot, was gone when smoke cleared, found her 50 yards away piled up under a tree. That was 1976. Sorry no pictures

    old family powder horn

Put it in a nice shadow box with a write up of its history, and display it, hopefully your children will come to appreciate it, if not maybe grandchildren.

Look at the gun parts corporation, based in NY, they have a lot of old unused parts.

    Recent NYS Firearms Law

I read an article last week that said a big reenactment group had canceled all activities in NYS. Rodgers island had canceled its F&I events because the new law bans firearms from all state parks. NYS has made the laws so convoluted that you can’t bring a gun. Even muzzleloaders are included...

    Lead Shot

Use aluminum foil for your shot charge. You will get a few extra yards out of it for a pattern. Not a long range solution. My smoothbore pistol is good to 30 feet for spruce grouse.

    German Hunting Sword parts.

I make my own parts, too hard to find what I want. Check track of the wolf, or atlanta cutlery. Good luck

Your best deal acquiring a muzzleloader, either trade or purchase

Best deal was at a gun show, I was about to leave when I came across a vendor who had a NSW trade gun, with a short 24” barrel, .62 cal, came with a mould as well, $150.00, could not pass it up, that was in 1994.

    1859 Enfield saddle ring carbine

It’s possible that this is one of the guns that had been issued to the British army in India, many were put in a warehouse and sat for 100+ years. The 1885 stamp fits with this.

    1859 Enfield saddle ring carbine

Check the markings. This look like it’s been very refinished. That will cut the value down considerably. Look it over carefully, if the markings are cleaned off it is probably are reproduction that has been altered. Gun Finnish looks too clean, just check it out carefully, just from the picture...

    What was your first Muzzleloader?

I was given a custom Kentucky style flint rifle, .44 cal. I was 8 years old, my dad got me powder and supplies and the Lyman black powder book, got hooked , then the bi centennial came and there was no going back, shot my first deer with it when I was 9.

    French Hunting Sword

Looking at the pictures, this looks like a blade that was cut down from a Brocken French blade and remade into this sword you have. The file marks are very Scottish and just for looks. You can see where they cut through the original engraving. I have seen a few cut down blades reused . Just my...

Did the US purchase any German Military Muskets?

The colonial governments made many foreign purchases of arms. During the F&I war an order of 10000 “Dutch” muskets were shipped to the colonies for use by the militias. Many were used and needed repairs.

    My cannon

Here is a short video of me firing my 2” canon, just a blank load of 300 gr of canon powder. Maple carridge, 1910 motorcycle wheels, the original wood set wore out.

    Flag pole holders

My wedge stands up with just the ground stakes. It uses two upright poles and a ridge. I do use portable holes for my canopy canvas. The also go with my flagpoles.
