    Gardening ..again

had a heart to heart with my lawn mower repair guy (after my chain saw conked out ...) learned some interesting stuff ... if you use low octane gas (regular) the engine runs hotter, so splurge and buy high- test ... also, even if you add a stabilizer, it starts to break down after a few weeks...

    Rubbing magnesium on frizzen ?

this appears to be a solution in desperate search of a problem. if doing this 'floats your stick,' well far be it from me to tell you not to do it, but it seems like a bunch of unnecessary steps.

    Fixable or not?

i'd go for a new plug, but that's just me, and i have the gadetry (around here somewhere) .. absent that, i'd go to a competent gunsmith, of see if Bobby Hoyt is interested in reboring it. best of luck

    Slow ignition

if the trigger feels like it's binding up, i'm smelling some sort of impingement - i would first look to something in the lock mortise binding up ... some tinkering with lamp black might be in order ... if you see any transfer, shave away a very small amount of wood (just enough to make the lamp...

    New to flints

started out with a Thompson Center .50 cal flint and though i have acquired or built several other rifles, it's still a solid performer. I have never owned a Lyman or Pedersoli rifle, so i can't speak to their adequacy or quality. You will no doubt be inundated with advice about never do this...
