    Ruger Old Army

Does a top strap really add any strength over a colt open top? On top strap guns the bullet wants to rip the barrel off the frame, with the top strap and lower frame sections preventing that. The cylinder axle is no help at all. In the open top colt, it's the same thing - the bullet forces try...

FOR SALE T/C Hawken Cap lock 50cal

Wender - just so we know you're not a scammer, the note with your screen name and date needs to be in the same photo as the gun. Otherwise, a scammer could easily post the screen name, then lift a bunch of photos off the web. The card, with the photo, proves it.

    Hickock 45 Dry Balls It

It sure made me cringe seeing the force applied to the wrong screwdriver (for the job), slipping off and skidding across the gun. Also, there was enough powder in there, that it wasn't necessary for those extra few grains to remain preventing the screw seating completely.

    Wider Wedge Anyone

One thing to point out - that screw isn't to stop the wedge from going deeper. It's there for the wedge spring to latch onto and stop the wedge from falling all the way out on removal.

    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

I'm guessing the Hawken rifles had heavy barrels because they didn't have high grade steel like today. And I often wondered why octagonal barrels were so much the fashion when they involved a lot more labor. Then I realized an octagonal barrel is stronger than a round one. Considering all...
