Shipping a Ruger old army to Washington state?

There must be a way we can personally combat this. First thought that comes to mind is belonging to a gun club with at least one of the members holding an FFL. Ship to, or from, him. The problem currently shipping via USPS is that should something happen to the gun in transit, USPS won't cover...

Why are my two rifles so different?

My suspicion is the Hawken's breech plug is one of those with a smaller diameter chamber than the bore. When it gets cleaned, the swab pushed debris into that chamber

Looks like the bottom pour might be hex, the other cylindrical.

    Brass

A workmate had been a submariner. He had a story of his crew polishing a large piece of brass, and it was a big job. After their time off they took over the sub from the previous crew, who had painted the brass black so they wouldn't have to polish it. So his crew stripped off the paint and...

I use Wright's Copper Polish. An interesting side note - it also cleans off water spots from glass.

Seems like it's missing one important bit of data - rifling - length of twist.

SOLD REDUCED .54 Shiloh Sharps 1863 Sporting Rifle

This looks like the same one that sold a few months ago? I'm curious why it took a long time to sell and then back on the market a few months later. I'm very tempted...

    The Sherriff got it done!

Elmer talks about the high speed smaller caliber bullets passing right through and not creating much of a wound. Better to have a projectile that expands and creates a large wound channel. I'm guessing the 'sheriff' being a .44 did that. It might not be the best weapon for an elk, but a small...

    The Sherriff got it done!

I've been reading a bunch of Elmer Keith lately and his view is the smaller calibers aren't good for bigger game. He was a guide and had to often drop the game himself after it had been shot with a smaller caliber. He got so he wouldn't guide anyone with a smaller caliber gun. Just because it's...

Do a little search, Salty. There's no shortage of threads on this topic. :p

Lyman Plains Rifle -A stuck ball and grease

Often the ball puller doesn't remove the stuck ball. The act of screwing it in wedges the ball in tighter, and then the lead doesn't grab the screw well enough and strips out. Then what do you do? And then, once there's a hole all the way through the ball, what do you do? I suppose you could get...

    The Sherriff got it done!

Thank you for exiting the thread, Appalichian. :thumb: Well done Sparkplug! It says a lot about a person who sets out to do something difficult or unique and makes it happen. Yeah, there are others less practiced who might muff it up, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do our best, practice up...

    Oregon Trail

Welcome from the Portland area. Elmer Keith in his book Six Guns says it's not difficult to shift from a left to right eye dominance. He says how to do it, but since it's not a problem for me, I don't recall how he says to accomplish the change.
