Cleaning patch stuck at breach end.

If you have a .22 bore brush, attach it to a cleaning rod and run it down the bore. A couple of twists and it will grab the patch so you can retrieve. That's worked for me. (don't turn it counter-clockwise and unscrew the brush!)

Got a dang jag stuck in barrel today

Had a great range day and was packing up to leave. I stupidly decided to run a patch down the barrel and got it stuck good on the way back out. No problem - I tied my aluminum rod to my truck and proceeded to pull the threaded end off. Tried 4-5 times to shoot it out. No joy. Finally got it home...

Welcome from your neighbor up in Flowood.

Has anyone else made or bought an 1803 Harpers Ferry?

I put together one of the Pedersoli percussion kits. It was easy and fun to build and very enjoyable to shoot. It's quite fast to reload compared to a rifle. Mine is a .54.

    Beans and rice

Had red beans and rice for lunch today. Once, I told a guy at work that RB&R was one of my favorites. He told me he grew up in south Louisiana and had them every day. Never wanted to see another one. Difference of perspective, I guess.

    Ballistol

I have used it for years and really like it. Early on, I cleaned a pistol on my kitchen counter with Ballistol. I soon found out how much my wife hates the smell. Haven't repeated that one.

    Balistol questions...

I like the smell also. I made the mistake of spraying some in the house one time. Quickly found out the little lady was not a fan.

    Balistol questions...

I use Ballistol for most gun cleaning, but I follow with Barricade for storage.

Blackpowder vs Pyrodex & Flintlocks - Dumb Question

My own experience - I got surprisingly good results in my flinter with a combo charge. I used about 5 grains of BP ahead of the Pyrodex charge and 3-4 of BP to prime. Perfect ignition every time. At about 8-10 grains per shot, you can stretch your BP a long way. Cleanup was about the same as BP.

    Cva hawken stuck ball

I screwed that ball remover thingy in, tied my range rod to the back of my truck and yanked it out. Oh, and a sprinkling of colorful language.

    Cva hawken stuck ball

I once got a ball stuck in my Hawken barrel, but then I got it out. Hope that helps!

Pyrodex versesREAL Black powder short test:

From my limited experience, I've had good results with Pyrodex RS in my flintlock. I used 5 grains of black powder as a kicker, ahead of the RS, and BP in the pan. Quick ignition and easy cleanup. You can stretch BP a long way only using 7-8 grains per shot. My $.02.

    Powder shortage effects

A few weeks ago I tried Pyro RS for the first time in my flintlock, with a BP kicker and in the pan. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. No misfires, easy cleanup. I can stretch my meager BP supply a long way.

    Flintlock pistol kits

I built one of Dixie's Pedersoli Harpers Ferry pistols. It's a level 1 build; basically minor wood shaping/finishing and metal polishing. Loads of fun to shoot. I am planning to take it to the range tomorrow and try out my homemade BP. Best of luck with whichever you choose.

What's the difference between Pyrodex types?

I may try the RS in my revolvers as is. The reason I brought this up is I can find no BP at all, no Pyro P, but plenty of RS locally. Thanks for all the replies.

What's the difference between Pyrodex types?

Is Pyrodex RS and P the same formulation, only differing in size of granules? Can I run RS through a ball mill and transform it into P?

Changing my opinion on Pyrodex RS

Used some RS for the first time in my Pedersoli scout carbine with 5 grain GOEX kicker and it worked perfectly every time. There was little fouling, I didn't have to pick the vent and cleanup was a breeze. This looks like a good option so I can save my BP for the revolvers. I have to say, I was...

pre-measuring or a better method of measuring for revolver?

I pour some BP into a small plastic container and dip from that. Most any large-mouth container will work.

pre-measuring or a better method of measuring for revolver?

I made a couple of dippers from brass cartridge cases. I can just dip and pour, say 25 grains of BP in each cylinder, then go back with a ball and seat. Goes pretty quickly.

    Failure to fire rate

I'll give you my take as a newbie. I've taken my Pedersoli .50 cal to the range about five times now. My experience is about 10% misfires. Once, I think I had oil in the bore that fouled the charge. A few times, the pan ignited, but no fire. Most often, the flint did not produce a spark. There's...
