    Another newbie question

They will be fine. They sell wads in both lubed and unlubed for a reason...some folks don't like the lubed ones. And you can always renew them by applying olive oil and patting dry with paper towels.

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

Uberti has done a 180 with the knowledge provided to them by us end users and actually incorporates it into the owner's manual described as using the wedge as an adjustment to set cylinder/barrel gap...and I quote: "Keep in mind the wedge is the means of adjusting the barrel to cylinder gap. If...

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

Hand fitting has to be passed on the the consumer in terms of higher prices, Marc (although Pietta seemed to get the message loud and clear and has corrected any short arbor issues long ago). There is also the Ostrich Syndrome...bury your head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist, and then...

    Euroarms Remington info needed

I realize this is a zombie thread, but...what he said.^^^^^^^^^^ DGG is Armi San Paolo, later AKA Euroarms. The early ones all had the low scoop barrel cutout, it's nowhere near a Beals and the Beals was almost flush with little to no arch. I have several of these DGG Remingtons and they are...

I like the way you think.

    Oval Bolt Stops

I'd like to see pictures of that. Every ASM and Uberti Walker I've ever come across has oval stops as did the originals. The 2nd Dragoon was the first model Colt to have rectangular notches.

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

No sir. As long as the wedge is firmly seated and you can still rotate the cylinder in half-**** position (.002-.003 clearance between forcing cone and cylinder) you are good to go.

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

Also, you need to ask the hard questions. Like Quigley, a 'sharpshooter' (like modern day snipers) would be intimately trained with his weapon (a rifle) and probably wouldn't "have much use for" a handgun other than a close-range defense weapon. Any real sharpshooter would probably wear his long...

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

If I may offer a suggestion... As a writer myself, I tend not to exaggerate reality beyond the scope of believable...in your case, I would head off to the range with a Navy Colt and put 2 dozen rounds down range at a steel plate at 120 yards. If you can ring it more than once, it's believable...

    Oval Bolt Stops

Having both a Walker and 1st Dragoon, I can attest to having zero problems with either. If anything, the oval stops seem to lock up tighter than the rectangular leades.

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

Well, you know what his load WASN'T, anyway... I can't fit more than 30gr of 3F in any of my Navy revolvers. It's possible he was using 4F which could give you a boost. Even though a .44 in a Dragoon or Walker (as are sometimes rumored to be the weapon of choice that day), you're looking at...

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

A Good smack with a hard nylon mallet will likely loosen the wedge. From there you can tap it out with the squared end of half a clothes pin. Resist the urge to use a steel hammer. Harbor Freight has a very nice nylon hammer for a few bucks. It's an essential part of your BP tool kit.

torque setting for percussion pistol nipples

I have a torque screwdriver for use at work, but don't use it on C&B nipples. But judging from what I'm used to I would *guess* 10-13 inch pounds? That being said, I agree with Phil above and generally torque to 'snug' with a pinhead sized dot of anti-seize on the threads. Every time. I've never...
