If I was a man living on the frontier during the revolution what would I have carried?

Just a WAG on my part, but I expect they would have brought whatever they usually hunted with, whether it was smoothbore or rifle, so I think both would have been present.

    Woods Walk Targets

My favorite is the axe bullet split. You put clay pigeons on either side of an axe head. Break both to win.

UPS lost 2 - 1 lb containers of Old Ensford 3f Black Powder

I am very happy that the package finally arrived. Did this happen to occur AFTER you mentioned the ATF?

    Ffg vs fffg

My .50 cal, with a 26" barrel, shoots well with 50 grains of 3F black powder, .490 round ball, and washed blue thread pillow ticking. I find that getting the right thickness of patching for the ball size has a BIG affect on accuracy.

    Washing Pillow Ticking Before Use

Grimord pretty well sums it up. Washing removes the sizing, tightens the weave, and makes the material softer. I always wash at least twice. Usually, I just toss the material in with a load of towels or denims. After washing, I tear the material into strips, roll up the strips, and tie the...

    Tap-O-cap hole punch?

I threw away the hole punch. Like Grimord, I used a razor to cut the tissue away from the paper. There is so much smear and splatter on the rolls, I was setting off the caps with the hole punch. I would grind the mixture, put some in the cap, compress with a matchstick, and settle the mix...

T/C Hawken 50 cal with a cracked stock

Try making an offer for both the .45 T/C and the .50 T/C with the cracked stock. If you can get both for around $300-$350, you can cherry pick the best parts to make the .50 to keep, and sell the .45 to get your money back.

    range rod

Personal opinion on my part, based on my past experiences. Most of the ramrods that come with a rifle are, at best, mediocre. Barely long enough, and the tips are often just glued on. My preference is to cut a metal rod that protrudes about 1/2" when dropped down an empty barrel. Both ends...

UPS lost 2 - 1 lb containers of Old Ensford 3f Black Powder

How did UPS know the package was lost, unless they themselves discovered it missing from their facility? Since black powder is now classified as an explosive (which is why we pay hazmat fees), the missing package should fall under ATF regulations. I would print out the tracking info before...

    Pawn shop find

Grab it. It is speaking to you. If you change your mind later, you can always get your money back by offering it here, and if you don't buy it, it will haunt you for years.

    Is this a Hawken?

Yes and no. It looks like a Thompson/Center "Hawken" rifle, but it is not a J&S Hawken rifle. Thompson/Center tried to copyright the name "Hawken". Basically, it is a modern made percussion half-stock rifle.

    Patch material

Suggestion: Hit your local fabric shop, and buy a scrap of each of the different pillow ticking they have. Explain what you want, the people there should be able to cut you a 2" wide sample of different thicknesses either free, or for a nominal charge. Once you know which works best, be sure...
