    Dutch Oven

The secret to camp cooking with a Dutch oven is to NOT put it right in the fire. You put over a few coals, and add a few more coals to the lid. Just be careful lifting the lid, so you don't spill coals and ashes all over the food. For meat, use a roasting trivet.

    help with hearing problem

I am profoundly deaf as a result of an auto accident. Situational awareness is second only to safety. I always check the line before I step up to make a shot. If there is a range master, or others are around, I introduce myself, and mention I have no hearing.

    NMLRA fighting

I agree. I don't always agree with them, but they are usually worth reading.

    NMLRA fighting

Just my opinion: I agree with Tanglefoot's analysis. The NMLRA has pretty much abandoned muzzleloading that is not within driving distance of Friendship, IN. FWIW, I an a long time life member of the NMLRA.

    refiring lead round balls

All of the recovered balls and minis that I have found had far too much dirt and sand pressed into them to reuse as-is. The recovered round lead balls can be recast into excellent new round balls, though.

    Truck gun

IIRC, black powder is hydroscopic, and will absorb water from the air, which can both prevent combustion, and cause rust in the chambers.

    black powder pellets

You are correct. They are a PITA, but I have one in reserve, just in case.

    Overhaul of really cheap horn

    beautiful work.

    Stuck wedge

Like SDSmlf's picture, I use a spare brass rifle wedge. I hold pistol in left hand, and use the brass wedge to press down on the spring with my left thumb. This leaves my right hand free to tap the pistol wedge with a non-marring hammer.

How much Gun for Big Game? or How Little!

My opinion only: I have muzzleloaders from .30 to .58 cal. However the most accurate rifle for me is a .50 cal., so that is the one I would pick.

    FLINTS

No natural flint within about 500 miles or more. I'd love to find a spot where I could collect a few nodes and work on developing knapping skill. I know I can practice on beer bottles, but they don't spark worth a damn.

What to do with a patch box ?

Beautiful work. Surprised you don't have a spare flint or two wrapped in the patching material.

    Hanging rifle over the fireplace

Considering the amount of heat and soot a fireplace can put out, I would prefer not to hang a rifle there, unless it was a purely decorative piece. But if I did. I would use brass "U" hooks, and wire tie the top of the hooks to prevent anyone from removing it by curiosity or accident.

    Favorite Hunting and NON-Hunting caliber?

.31 and .50 Both solid, accurate rifles.

Musket caps on a percussion rifle?

Musket nipples are a different size from #10-#11 nipples, and are made to fit the caps. Only the threads are the same, so that they screw in properly

Musket caps on a percussion rifle?

I have both musket and #11 nipples for most of my percussion rifles. If I run low on one, I can use the other. Now, if Tap O Cap made a musket cap forming punch, I would be a lot happier.
