What size balls? And does silk work?

In my experience, silk turns to ash instantly when touched by flame or ember. I would expect a silk patch to be consumed before the ball reaches the muzzle. IIRC, artillery propellants were stored in silk bags so as not to leave any scraps in the bore.

    Real or Replica?

Pan and frizzen look like bent sheet metal, and at least one modern wood screw on sideplate. Is there a touch hole in the barrel? Posted before I saw Canutes' post

POI moves with same load ...

Has humidity changed? Humidity affects wood, and changes in humidity can change the pressure of the wood on the barrel, which would affect POI.

    Must be more careful

Hawk78, I have a similar condition, When venturing into the heat, I wear one of those "cooling towels" that you soak in water. The evaporation lets you stay cooler. One helped me survive a trip to the middle east.

    Greetings from Colorado

Greetings from California. The Mountain Man at 1001 Manitou Ave, in Manitou Springs is a good muzzleloader shop. They are well stocked with most supplies.

    Patch knife?

Just my opinion: 1) Within reach when you need it. I have often used my pocket knife. 2) Sharp enough to cut thick cloth without pulling the cloth out of the muzzle.

    best ramrod

Just my opinion. The ramrod that comes with most commercially made muzzle-loaders, is like the spare tire kit that you find in most automobiles: Barely adequate. I prefer a solid brass rod the length of the barrel. With a loading jag on one end, and a "T" handle on the other, they work great...

Walnut Stocked 32 Caliber Mule Ear

Great looking rifle, and a good choice of caliber and lock.

    New Patch Knife

"It has various meanings according to various people. A few are: the clitoris of Kali, the ***** of Shiva, Surya ra Chandra (sun and moon, symbols of Nepal), a "Kowdi" ('cow-track' because the cow is sacred to the Hindus), a blood drip, a substitute guard, and on and on and on. Take your pick...

    Advice Please

I agree with the 15-20 grains to start with. Due to small size, I expect it to flip right over, unless you stake it down, or put a sandbag over it. I would recommend a half-filled sand bag that you can drape over it, once you have it loaded, and the fuze in place.

    Black Powder Price/Quality/Value

In my .50 cal, I find Swiss a bit dirtier than GOEX, so I tend to shoot GOEX exclusively.

    Nipple size for Investarms Hawken.

Merely a suggestion: Go to your local hardware store and pick up 6 by .75 mm screw, and verify that it fits before ordering nipples. Just in case someone screwed up the threads. (sorry for the pun)

Suggested starting load for .32 cal, plus powder measure rec...

One problem with small charges is that the ball may get seated so far down that it blocks the touch hole. I have a .32 cal that needs at least 20 grains to keep the patched ball above the touch hole. To check: put a feather in the touch hole, and see if it moves as you seat the ball on the...

    I'll Never Hear Thunder . . .

You are doomed. You have felt that "push to the shoulder" recoil, smelled the unmistakable scent of powder, and seen the spreading billows of white smoke. Next, you will find yourself experimenting with different amounts of powder, various patching materials and thicknesses, and obsessing with...

To sign or NOT to sign, that is the question?

Two feathers, this is just my opinion: If you have a makers mark, use it. Spelling out "Made By Two Feathers" takes up a fair amount of space, depending on how large the lettering is. Scrimshaw the mark on horns, or anything that cannot be stamped.

Suggested starting load for .32 cal, plus powder measure rec...

Just my opinion: I would start with 25 to 30 grains of 3F, and work up if needed.

    Internet transactions, payment and shipping

FWIW, I have had excellent service with USPS money orders. If one disappears, or the seller claims it has disappeared, the USPS can check if it has been cashed, and if so, where and when. If it has not been cashed in 30 days (this may have been changed) you can present your receipt, file a...

    Silly question

In the bottom of my range box are two sets of M1 Garand cleaning rod sections, with an adapter for the cleaning jags, patch worms, bullet puller, etc.. If I forget my usual range rod, I can make one from as many sections of cleaning rod as needed.

Did Thompson Center make a .45 caliber Renegade?

You can find aftermarket T/C renegade barrels in just about any caliber you want. I have one in .36 cal from Green Mountain.

    ammunition choices

Welcome from California. I would suggest you check around for the nearest muzzleloading club, and visit them at their next shoot. There may well be one or two people with an extra rifle they would part with to help a new shooter. They should also be able to answer just about any questions you...
