    that barrel lug and front sight are pretty darn close, do you use a heat sink to keep from melting the lug off when you solder the front sight?

    the 2 brass pipes I found are 3/8", I assume I trisect the space between the muzzle and entry and place them so there is equal space between the muzzle and center of the first pipe, that's equal to the space between the centers of the 2 pipes, and equal to the space between the entry and center...

    the stock I ordered has a 3/8" ramrod channel and hole and is pre inlet for the Colerain 1" octagon to round barrel, with no other inlets I hope I have not ordered something that will not work

    and that great builder would likely tell you that it was so you had to pull the ramrod out to remove the lock bolt, a safety thing. a master builder has nothing to prove, and would just say, I had too much coffee and was in a rush.

    actually I was gonna cheat, make 2 tang bolts, one a little longer so I could screw a sight onto the thread that was above the tang and a could switch out the tang bolt to make her look like they did, or wing shoot.

    what about offset, is that a thing with smoothies? I go for 1/4" - 1/2" depending on the stock shape and cheek rest and wrist, but these guys have no cheek rest and no rear sight and I am unfamiliar with the wrist characteristics on a trade gun.

    just because the majority of surviving rifles were percussion does not diminish the probability of early J&S rifles being flint guns even one surviving flint gun proves the existence of flint Hawkens. the one certain example would be enough evidence to suggest there were more than one produced...
