Is there a formula for setting a vernier sight?

if it makes you feel better, you can hand write the table on some parchment and title it " Ye Olde drop table" I bet your barrel was not hand forged around a mandrel and I bet your powder is a lot better and more consistent than what was available in the good old days. as much as we love our...

Is there a formula for setting a vernier sight?

actually, it does, measure the distance from the front sight to the rear sight and the heights of the 2 sights. Sin of the angle = opposite over hypotenuse. 1\60 degrees = 1 MOA very easy to calculate how many thousandths 1 MOA is for YOUR individual rifle. calculate a chart of drop every 10...

Is there a formula for setting a vernier sight?

there is an easy formula, for round balls, use the round ball ballistic calculator, for conicals use the BC and plug that into any ballistics program. you will need to know the muzzle velocity. you can then calculate MOA drop at any distance and set your sights accordingly. windage can also be...

Would a cal 44 remington 1858 do the job?

I read Elmer Keith's book "Hell, I was There". specifically the part where he was discussing Cap and Ball revolvers with civil war veterans in Montana when he was a boy. (one of his first guns was a 51 navy) it was interesting to read what they said about the revolvers, and how effective they...

    Firing the ramrod down range.

it did happen to me once, but not in the way you might think, I was sage grouse hunting with my pedersoli double 12. going around the rim of a depression, I jumped 2 by a small pile of rocks, I dropped the first bird and leveled on the 2nd bird, when I fired, not only did the bird fold, but it...

    Jukar Handgun

the ramrod friction fits under the front lock screw. I peened the back of mine very slightly so as to give a solid click when the ramrod passes under the lock screw it snaps out without too much effort and stays in place nicely even when shooting the stoutest loads.

    Jukar Handgun

It looks exactly like a CVA Colonial Pistol, mine are marked Jukar Spain, mine has a metal ramrod and the front sight was WAY too short. on my flint version I cut down the rear sight, on the percussion version I used a much taller front sight from track of the wolf. both shoot dead on now.

    Don’t trust them

I drill and pin after using epoxy mixed with capaseal (glass powder). it is as strong as anything I have used, never has to pull a stuck ball (knock wood), but I clean and load with them and never had one fail.

    Black Powder Linguistic Pet Peeves

I just prefer to say let me grab my deer, elk, squirrel, bird gun ... which ever applies, and my hunting bag and horn of gunpowder and I will go out and get some dinner.

Shot the new to me 50 cal CVA Mountain rifle

I have a mountain in .50 in a flinter and a percussion. both like .490 balls, pillow ticking patches, lubed with spit, all over 100 gr of FFG goex. excellent groups, and swat deer like the hammer of Thor.

Gaaah! Help! Can't get stuck ball out

I think if that happened to me I would go to home depot, and get a piece of steel rod the biggest diameter that would fit with a layer of cloth around it. remove the barrel put it on some padding and smack that rod with a heavy weight persuader until it rams the ball home, then remove it by...

The Mainspring is slipping off the tumbler! How do I stop it?

The L&R rpl is $185 US from track of the wolf, how much could shipping cost to get it down under? when I bought mine they were $119, and the CVA barrels shoot real good, so the upgrade is worth it.

The Mainspring is slipping off the tumbler! How do I stop it?

Those Maslin flintlocks are not the best, I upgraded mine to a RPL and have never been sorry. faster ignition, and far more reliable. just a thought.

    howdy im charlie

It shoots awesome, its a squirrels worst nightmare, little .311 balls leave plenty of meat. and it fits just like any mountain rifle, just a little lighter. the crocket rifle never felt good, it just didn't pull up like that mountain rifle. so I made due.

its a green mountain 13/16" cut to 32" I silver soldered 2 steel panels at the touchhole, and on the other side to fit tight against the RPL lock. the breech plug I machined from a bolt. the sights, and lugs, rib, all CVA parts. thimbles are from track of the wolf, to handle the reduced diameter...

I have 2 CVA mountains in 50 cal and one in 54 cal, one of the 50s is a flinter, both 50s like 100 gr of 2f goex with a .490 ball and pillow ticking patch.my barrel is PLENTY broke in built them in the mid 70s, taken lots of deer with them, I like those Mountain rifles, they fit me like a glove...

    dear loads

I have 2 of the CVA's in 50, one percussion, one flint, same barrel length and twist both like 100 gr or 2f goex with a .490 ball and pillow ticking patch holds a nice tight group at 50 yards, and not bad at 100 yards. I have taken several deer with them.
