    Amusing/Ridiculous Muzzleloading Misconceptions...

My first wife was a flaming birch, her name was Brenda. 😁

    lowest powder charge for elk

Elk are tough animals. Much more so than deer. You owe it to the elk to use as much as you can handle accurately and get close for a clean shot. That means if you can't hit a 5" target every time, don't shoot that far.

    Pecitonica river problems

I would think it should be changed. Call them tomorrow and see what they say. Could probably cut off the narrow part and re drill it if the stock hasn't been inleted. Whatever you do, call them first before working on it.

    Pecitonica river problems

Just call them. At least before you ask on a public forum. They have always been helpful to me FWIW.

    Conversion to flint

The drum on mine was a metric thread so maybe Pedersoli has one but I couldn't find one so I made one from a bolt I got at Napa. I cut it off after installing it and filed it flush. I could remove it and convert it back but would have to drill it and use an easy out.

    Conversion to flint

I converted an old Kentucky. I took out the drum and found a bolt that matched the threads and made a vent hole liner. I suppose if you could make the vent liner removable, it could be reversed. The lock I got was from Dixie Gun Works and dropped right in. Not bad since I bought the pistol in...

Has anyone ever built a Pecatonica River long rifle kit

Highly recommended. As stated work will be involved and their kit prices don't include the stock which will vary by grade. My first rifle build (and only so far)

goex vs Graff and sons powder

I can’t tell the difference after 5 lbs of the Grafs. Well, maybe my wallet. Seems like it would be a lot of trouble to make two kinds of powder. Containers are the same with different labels.

Recommendation to cover up an accidental ding on Kibler Colonial under buttplate?

Keep covering dings and all you will have left is patches. 😁

    "Easy to learn on" kits?

Say you buy a cheap kit. And it costs $300 (probably more retail). A good pre carve stock is around $160 or so. If you mess it up, you can buy another. If you mess up the cheap kit, you will have problems finding just a stock so it's a pile of junk. Your "Great" rifle parts are still usable.

    "Easy to learn on" kits?

You could build one of those cheaper kits, but what will you learn? You say you already have the parts for a great rifle so build it. Get the books, watch the videos. Just take your time. What's the worst that could happen? Maybe mess up a stock. A good pre carve in a lower grade isn't that much...

    Which Longrife to buy

They will take some work as well as research to make them as correct as possible. The stock I got from Pecatonica was a nice piece of wood but I removed a LOT. I also had to deepen the ramrod channel to get the web thinner. One side of the forestock was thicker as well as the butt stock etc...
