    Banana Patchbox Latch

Thanks Eric. At least I know what they look like now as I have never seen one in person.

    Banana Patchbox Latch

I ordered a banana patchbox with my SMR kit. I wasn't and still not sure if I want to have one or not yet. The instructions that came with it (TOW) are worthless. They are for a regular patchbox that goes next to the butt plate. It came with a spring that I'm assuming is for opening the lid and...

    “Dark” Browning?

I kind of like that carving. Leaning very seriously towards something real close on my build. Providing I can "practice" enough not to screw it up. Although not very PC, it is "purty".

    They mock me

I hunted all day one time. When I stopped to answer the call of nature, two turkeys walked over a rise about 20 yards away. There I was frozen midstream as they just stared. They finally just walked away. They were both hens though and didn't seemed impressed.

Home-made humidity chamber & a question about rust browning

It is easy to over apply and over work it. Too much can dissolve what's there and leave it streaky. Use it sparingly and just moisten it then leave it for a longer period of time between coatings.

Home-made humidity chamber & a question about rust browning

I use a clean red shop rag.

Home-made humidity chamber & a question about rust browning

You don't want to scrub it with baking soda, it's an abrasive and will take off the finish. I just gently wipe it on and rinsed it off. Almost a dabbing and only when done browning. not necessary between coats and probably could mess it up. I have left them with the reagent on all night several...

    Well, now I've done it!

Let the browning begin! Started it last night with the LMF at 7:00. Let it go for 3 hours or so then added the second coat. That went over night. This AM I carded it and re applied it. Put it in my climate controlled humidity chamber AKA the spare bath. My wife is so understanding.

Home-made humidity chamber & a question about rust browning

Here you go . Fill the tub with an inch or two of hot water and close the door.

    Well, now I've done it!

Yep. There was only like 1/2 a thread if that so I took it out and filed it off and put it back in. Fresh anti seize on it and the breech plug. Then I cut it off and filed it flush, counter sunk it just right too.

    Well, now I've done it!

Not sure when the bit I ordered for the White Lightening vent liner will get here. I ordered it last week from Track and just got the shipping notification that a tracking number had been issued. Anyway after re checking all my metal parts for finish, I was at a dead end until some tools...

    Well, now I've done it!

Yeah, I knew that was the right deep down but just at a standstill waiting for the bit.

    Well, now I've done it!

I think I've got the stock where it's going to be. I did the 220 very lightly but there was minimal "whiskers" left. Think it's going to be what it is.. I have tested the stains on some scrap pieces of stock wood that they sent me with the kit. I am going to go with the Aqua Fortis. I tried two...

    Well, now I've done it!

I have lots of 220, just checked. I was going to whisker it once more with alcohol to really clean it so I'll use 220. Thanks guys

    Well, now I've done it!

Good to know. Should I go back and whisker it the last time with 240?
  18. 87TT

    Well, now I've done it!

Well, yesterday I started sanding the stock. I whiskered it a few times and am down to 320 grit. Everytime I wet it, I found a few areas that needed a little love but it is looking good. I am probably going to whisker it once or twice more and I have some 500 and 1000 grit paper. Today I...

    Well, now I've done it!

Only a few little things the last couple of days. Put the tip on and shaped the ram rod. Cleaned out the channel in the stock so it slides in smooth with the tip on. Draw filed the barrel and cleaned up the lock plate and ****. I have a quick question. The "kit" came with a standard vent liner...

    Well, now I've done it!

Well, pretty much "in the white" Got all my pins drilled for the barrel and pipes. Trigger needs some tuning, finish sanding and wood prep, staining. Draw file the barrel, prep the other metal Brown the barrel and metal parts etc. Still a ways to go but kind of a milestone.
