    Well, now I've done it!

Too windy to go out and do anything else so I worked on the gun all day. Pretty much have the buttstock shaped and rough sanded. Took off a lot of wood but the shape is more to my liking. Sorry for the crappy flip phone pictures.

    I can’t see my sights

I just have trouble with focusing on the rear sight. I use reading glasses a lot but not for shooting because then the front sight is blurry. My solution was to when I ordered my current kit, I had the dovetail for the rear sight moved out farther by three inches.

Flintlock rifle project. Patch box depth?

Kind of what I was thinking. I ordered one of those "cigar" shaped ones with my SMR "kit" but pretty sure I'm not going to put it in. Plus there was not instructions for it, only a sheet from Track of the Wolf about patch boxes that are way different. I've never seen one so not sure how it works.

    Well, now I've done it!

Well yesterday I got the fore stock shaped and the nose cap fitted. Today I inlet the ramrod pipes and made sure the rod goes in and out smoothly. I didn't pin them in yet as I am waiting for the new under lugs so I can drill all the pins at the same time. That didn't take but most of the...

    Scrimshaw artist

Just draw or trace your design on the horn and use a really sharp scribe (I sharpened a 16 penny nail and wrapped a handle on it.) You have to keep it sharp and scratch slowly over your design. I have to admit that I'm a terrible artist but I did it.

    Well, now I've done it!

It's already done and seems to be fine. The shims weren't that thick. It is a B weight .50 cal. I used a thin slice of the same maple as the stock and epoxied it in. Then thinned it as needed until the bolster was tight and the lock plate the right depth all around. I spent the rest of the day...

    Well, now I've done it!

OK update one week in. I have the barrel in, tang, lock and trigger cut in. Tang bolt and lock bolts drilled and tapped. And barrel pinned. Just started cleaning up and polishing the trigger guard. I am enjoying this and have put in some long days.

    Trigger question

Thanks to the Track of the wolf PDF Thanks to you and Track of the wolf's PDF, I was able to get the trigger in and working. I did have to grind off a good deal of the triggers. 👍The one thing I missed and may have already messed up before I started, was the Lock. I missed the part where you...

    Trigger question

Never thought about taking the levers down some but that may have be done. I don't know why not. I already figured out that the base was going to have to be trimmed down. The R.E. Davis website calls it the ":small ooo4 model knife trigger" From Pecatonica's site Thanks for your help. I am...

    Trigger question

Thanks, I assume just above the rear trigger bar when at rest so it only contacts the sear when it springs up? Where the red dot is?

    Trigger question

I posted this in my other thread but am posting it here too in hopes of some enlightenment. Thanks guys. OK, the barrel is in the stock with the tang inlet and underlugs pinned. I'm in the process of working on the lock mortice. I do have to do some shimming under the lock as the stock was inlet...

    Well, now I've done it!

Well, I have worked on the rifle since I got it Monday (day and a half). I have finally got the barrel set in the channel and started on the tang. I did take the lock apart so I could see if the touch hole location was going to line up with the pan when it was finished inlet. And it will be...
