    Original Brown Bess. Nice pics.

But if you want to get any closer you’ll need to save your lunch money. Anyway supposedly an untouched, unmodified original Long Land. Posted for the close-up pictures of it...

    WANTED Baker Rifle sling

Thanks @Artificer I am pending a Baker purchase (probably the final gun I’ll ever buy) and was waiting to see what Pedersoli puts out - and the price! - in 2023 (reportedly) before I jump on TRS version. Your information above is saved.

    Polishing metal…the final step?

Perfect! Many thanks for the info and yes I am going “authentic.” I assumed originals didn’t have a mirror finish (for multiple reasons) but it’s certainly nice to have a clear historical end goal set out. 👍🏻

    Polishing metal…the final step?

Ooo very nice. Got a friend who has the set up for that. But for now… Let me rephrase my question focusing on what I have on hand: Which is smoother (less abrasive) on the metal? MY final step? 1500 emery or 0000 steel wool?

    Polishing metal…the final step?

Just got back from the hardware store when I posted the above. Picked up 0000 steel wool and 600 and 1500 emery. The current project is brass but with all my Muskets being armory bright finishes it seems I’m always polishing a scratch out of something.

    Polishing metal…the final step?

0000 steel wool or 1500 grit emery?

I see this post is about 10 days old but I placed an order with them about 3 days ago that arrived today in fine shape. Dunno if that counts as communication but…

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

Don’t mean to spam but, kind of in a way of thanks for all the suggestions here, a follow-up pic to the piece above. This is after a couple hours work with assorted files and emery paper kind of learning as I go. Not done yet but almost there. Thanks to all!

    Refinishing a finished gun stock…

Interesting. Lotsa variables with wood I imagine. Wood origin, age, where on the log its coming from, etc. My Dragoon rifle, not all that much shorter then the 1777, is very nice as is the rest of the “shorties.” 1777 and Bess very pale. I was a little hesitant to stain the 1777 originally as...

Perfect! Thread saved for future use. I see a project in the making. Thank you gentlemen!

    Refinishing a finished gun stock…

Stripped it once I reckon I can do it again!

    Refinishing a finished gun stock…

Thank you. Yes I was afraid of that. And probably almost impossible to get all the BLO out of the wood without SERIOUS sanding. Unless there’s a chemical option. Had good luck with stripper. Hmmm

    Refinishing a finished gun stock…

Own multiple Pedersoli’s where I have removed (stripped) the factory polyurethane finish and re-did them in BLO. Very happy with the results. All Pedersoli wood is walnut but not all walnut is the same. Probably several factors in this but one common element with my Perdersoli’s is the longer...

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

While prepping the stock for staining I put a little time into the brass. Choosing the biggest, thickest, and worse piece (the one pictured above) I spent maybe 10-15 minutes testing out various grades of file, sandpaper, emery, even ending with a bit of Brasso to get a clear look. It will be...

    WANTED Baker Rifle sling

Was just coming back to say that as I have watched several in the past. Baker rifle is my next purchase. Anyway, back on topic, I do not see any white pipe clay slings on Bakers from the reenactors whose job it is to be historically accurate. Or in any other Baker vid which is what I suspected...

    Kit recommendations and experiences

Working on a Pedersoli Brown Bess kit now. Quality seems top shelf. As already mentioned you will need a collection of wood working tools (rasps, files) and tools for finishing the brass up at least with the Bess. Steel components were all good. In fact it has the smoothest bore I’ve seen on a...

    WANTED Baker Rifle sling

I will claim zero expertise in British slings but it looks like the same as sold for the Brown Bess. Which might be correct or not. Dunno.
