    My New 1740 Brown Bess

Does look nice. Any idea the wood type? Assembling a Pedersoli Bess kit as we speak so I appreciate a good looking musket. And I believe Veteran Arms is just the importer.

For anyone considering an Indian manufactured Flintlock

I find this kind of amazing and wouldn’t have guessed. I shoot with a cartridge box and bayonet strap but am not a re-enactor. Like to shoot with period appropriate equipment but I’ll keep my own clothes. Seems like if you argue thread count on a waist coat you would take care of the soldiers...

Trying to find my first rifle kit

Why would you be concerned about Pedersoli’s “locks and barrels”? Never heard that before. For full disclosure I own several (and currently building a Bess from kit) and all are great.

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

Interesting. Did some casting as a kid in shop class (did everyone make brass knuckles?) and we used some black powder that packed nicely. Sand?

Dragging this up from the root cellar…did you ever order G. Goodwin? Too small, too big, perfect?

    A Pedersoli Brown Bess Kit

dave_person Re-reading this thread for the third time and now with “good eyes” as my kit just arrived. Working on the stock as we speak. I have to say the problems your musket is showing (mainly wood to metal fit, historical inaccuracies still apply) is “unique” to yours. Yes I have the...

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

Say one thing for the Pedersoli Bess. The bore is one of the smoothest I’ve seen. Very nice.

    Cleaning Brass Furniture

In a bit of a follow-up to my earlier question about applying paste wax over shined brass to keep it shiny…the answer is apparently “No it does not.” Hardly an exhaustive test but I tried it on a clean piece and, surprisingly to me, it doesn’t seem to be doing much - in fact it may be yellowing...

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

Thanks all. This will be a long project as I enjoy this kind of stuff and don’t want to rush it and so I get it “historically” right…as much as possible anyway for my flintlock OCD. Plus I’m not a professional builder and suspect stupid real life will be competing for my time! Hopefully I’ll...

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

Thanks. Ironically I read this earlier and am currently reading your other Bess thread detailing things to do to make it “more historical looking.” Great stuff and it will be my guide.

Brass work on Pedersoli Brown Bess kit…

As above. Picked up a Pedersoli Brown Bess kit and it will need much work - especially the stock which, while inletted, is incredibly rough. This is cool though. I like working with wood and this will give me a chance to fix a couple of historical inaccuracies and finish it how I like. However…...

    “Armory Bright” metal finishes…

These are military replicas from the late 1700’s/early 1800’s and yes. I like the armory bright also.

Any other heretics out there that oil their barrels?

Sperm whale oil still a thing or am I missing subtle humor here?
