Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

I like to look at the top-of-the-line rifles at the M/L shows but would never buy one, for me it would be like driving a Ferrari to a mud bog race. I am rough on guns or I should say, the places I hunt are rough on guns, fighting my way through a privet hedge infested swamp, lowering them to the...

SOLD - Pending funds T/C .54 Percussion Renegade

Your rifle is a Renegade not a Hawken, none the nonetheless, this is a super deal, if I didn't already have a .54 I couldn't pass this one up.

Screwdriver for Siler lock top jaw screw

I have a screwdriver slot file, zip, zip and my gunsmith screwdriver set fits just fine as does the handmade forged turn screw in my possible bag.

    Time machine Hawken

In the last battle scene in the Patriate movie I saw several extras carrying TC Hawkens so they must be from way back in time like the above ad states.

help please with 50 cal smooth bore turkey load

I don't think a .50 is too small, it all depends on what you put in it. .410s with #9 TSS shot are all the rage with the modern guys now, I bet you could come up with some devastating loads for your .50 out to 30 and possibly 40 yards. I bet a .50 with a jug choke would shoot a very tight pattern.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I use this for walnut, but like anything finish related everyone had their own favorite. It takes about 5 coats sanded back to look like this with no visible pores after the finish is applied

    Wheel weight lead question

I would imagine somewhere down the road, if the greenies get their way, lead will become public enemy #1 and be hard to buy and possess.

    Why are smokepoles so awesome?

I used to watch the cable hunting shows but can't stand them now. When I saw a guy in a 5K plastic elevated "blind" watching a pile of corn with an unmentionable thingy mounted on a lead sled type rest talking about how great his "hunt" is, I actually felt sorry for him. He is missing out on so...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Wow! I checked TC plug wrenches on eBay and see them going go $100 now, they were about $25 a year ago. There is a guy making these now, he has some for sale on eBay every now and then, seems like he sells his for about $25.

Can you guys school me on grades of Hawkens? Quality, value, etc.

Don't buy any used gun sight unseen unless the seller has detailed pictures of the inside of the bore, I see quite a few pitted bores on used guns, this is common in TCs and everything else, back in the day people just didn't know how to clean them.

Pecatonica NW Trade Gun Build Help

I agree with the Dremel caution, unless you have a lot of experience with one. I was once a power duck decoy carver and use a Dremel and Fordom tool exclusively. I have years of experience and an assortment of bits that most people don't know exist. I bought a GM drop-in barrel for a TC and...

    Wheel weight lead question

Pulling up an older thread to answer my questions; my neighbor just offered me about 150# of wheel weight lead for free, already cast in small ingots, that stuff is HARD and I initially turned him down but I think I will take him up on the deal now. I stopped by the local small-town garage to...

    Weight sorting cast lead balls.

Not a lead heat problem with my off-center mold, I have been casting for 50 years and know the process well, my mold is really off center, I have seen in reviews of Lyman molds that others have ended up with a poorly cut mold as well. I have around 1 dozen molds of different sizes, this mold is...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I mentioned earlier that I bought an estate lot of B/P stuff for $100, when I met the guy to pick up the stuff he threw in a full pound of powder from the 70s and a tackle box with a lot of other stuff in it. I gave one of the molds to a Forum guy who lives close and sold the Lyman TC Maxi mold...

    Why are smokepoles so awesome?

I think it is because it takes us back to where our success depends on us and not a pile of gadgets to make the whole process easier. I felt the same way when I ditched the wheels on my bow and went back to my roots as a traditional archer. In 96 I ditched the fiberglass for solid wood bows and...

    Weight sorting cast lead balls.

I used to weigh my cast balls but I found my rifles will shoot the same with about anything that I put in them. Once I got the loads worked up I don't get fliers except for an occasional one with a clean barrel on one of my guns. I got rooked on a mold trade, the mold casts a ball that is .535...

Where to get .69 Cal round ball?

I was getting my trailer tires balanced at the local small-town garage, the owner had about 300# of used wheel weights in a bucket he wanted to sell for 25 cents a pound. The only smoothbore I shoot is a 12Ga that loves a patched .700 ball. I will probably go back to the garage and buy 50# or so...

    Breech Plugs

Never seen a TC plug with a cross pin, they are drilled in one side and out the other for the flash chamber. The side opposite of the so called "clean out plug" is plugged flush and does look like a cross pin. On a GM drop in the plug is only drilled from the opposite side which is a good...

    An odd Deerstalker

I had a TC Renegade with a half round barrel, I found out later that the barrel was an add on by a gunsmith friend of mine who had a stock he wanted to make a gun out of.

    A recent vivid lucent daydream...

I have caught a lot of flak from the guys here who think their mission in life is to run down others to make themselves look superior. They are all on my ignore list so I don't have to listen to their drivel. Loved the story!
