    joe wood coning tool

I use Duck brand double sided carpet tape, there are different grades, I use the cheap stuff. I changed my patch material to #40 drill cloth and found I need to go over my .54 again, I can't thumb start my load with this patch ball combination.

    Walmart caps

We have 3 Walmart's in town, I checked a huge one yesterday that I don't normally go to, they didn't have any B/P stuff of any kind out yet. I have never bought caps there so I don't know if they have ever had them. The Walmar close to my house usually has them up in July.

    Inletting swamped barrel

Another thing on inletting; a lot of original rifles had a round bottom barrel inlet instead of matching the flats. A friend inherited these round bedding tools, he had no use for them and gave them to me. I was planning to inlet the barrel of my TN bear pistol barrel with a round bottom using...

    T/C stock refinish question

I forgot to mention, I put the Tru-oil on with a 1" square of green scotch bright pad. I put the Tru-oil on heavy, scrubbed it in, then quickly wiped off all the excess with an old washcloth, this leaves a satin finish instead of the usual shiny finish the Tru-oil usually leaves.

    FREE Percussion Caps!

People give me boxes of their dad's old B/P stuff that they inherit, I probably have at least 10 ten tins of old caps. I haven't tested all of the boxes but what I have tested go off most of the time but seem weak compared to modern caps, they don't have that loud "crack".

    For the Thompson Center Folks.

I suspect TC will make percussion guns at first. The big difference over Kibler is they will make finished guns ready to shoot. Where I live almost nobody shoots flint or could possibly put together a Kibler kit. It seems like Traditions stays sold out of many of their products so the market is...

    Too nice to shoot.

My brother found an old TC Hawken kit in my dad's closet after he went to assisted living. I put it together and thought briefly about keeping it pristine but changed my mind. The neck shot was finisher, I broke both his shoulders with the first shot but he still managed to snowplow away quickly...

    Walmart caps

I did the same last year when I found them in Walmart, bought 3 and left the rest for other folk, this seems to be common for the folk that post here and says something good about our kind of folk.

    T/C stock refinish question

I use two applications of Kleen Strip on the two TCs I refinished. Like others I did a lot of wood removal, I sealed the walnut with Birchwood Casey stock sealer and finished up with 5 coats of Tru-oil.

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

I posted this before about a guy I ran into that pulled the breech plug on his TC Hawken every time he cleaned it. He said he could screw it in and out with finger pressure, the threads have obviously been wallowed out over the last 40 or 50 years. I told him this was bad idea but he countered...

    Pocket drill cloth at Joann's

I washed mine in the washer once with soap in hot water and tumbled it dry to shrink it as much as I could., I would think that soap would help get the sizing out of it.

    Bedford kit?

I have one TOW and one pre-carve from Pecatonica, both had flaws in the pre-carve, some major, some minor. I have posted this advice a bunch of times; don't let them do the lock inlet, do it yourself so it will be in the right place. I have done two plank builds with the barrel inletted and...

    Percussion cap search...

Walmart puts their CCI caps out in July, they go quickly so be vigilant and check often, they sell for less than $6 a tin.

    Sweat

I worked in a 5X7 offset corner of my garage by the water heater for 18 years, this was in Alabama. When it got too hot, I pulled my bandsaw out under a maple tree in the front yard. When I built my retirement home with a shop, I had them make a cut out in the wall for a wall unit that heated...

    Youtube is cracking down

I had a 30 second video on my channel showing my English fowler build when I inletted the lock. They canceled my entire channel stating inappropriate content. They didn't respond to my attempts to right this wrong. What I think happened, I had a how to video on making and using my bow tillering...

Sales of Firearms and Ammo at Flea Market

I go to a flea local market that always has a gun seller or two set up with a dozen guns or so. Quite a few venders have one or two guns on their table as well as ammo. I have only bought one TC at this flea market in the last 20 years, it was an unfired gray hawk that I picked up for $90. I...

    40 cal. Kibler SMR

I co-witness my sights as well, when I look through my peep the front sight is centered in the rear notch and level with the top of the rear sight.

    Assembly pins

I round off the sharp edges but leave the end flat enough to get my punch in it for pin removal. A pin with a sharp edge can take out a chunk of wood when you knock it out. I can often push my pins out with my fingers or just finger pressure on a punch. On my last rifle build the forward pin...

    looking for fiber optic sights

Midway sells them. I have a fiber optic on the front of my TC because when I built the gun from a kit, I couldn't see the front sight well at all. My rifle was shooting high with the rear sight as low as it would go so I ordered a taller than standard front optic sight to get me back in the...

Is it a clean out screw?

I looked at it, I don't know if Sharon barrels are made differently than later TC barrels but that is a huge hole and something doesn't look right.
