    Flintlock Hawken Squirrel Rifle?

Yes, I mentioned the hooked breech because the OP originally referenced the gun I had built and shared on another thread. I used a hooked breech on my percussion rifle. I did so because I wanted it to be easier to clean, particularly after use by my 4H club. When I was installing the hooked...

    Flintlock Hawken Squirrel Rifle?

I'm sure there are good builders out there who would take that on. One issue may be the hooked breech with a flint lock. I know there are several original hooked breech flintlock guns, but I wonder how far the breech plug is threaded into the barrel on them and if the touch hole is angled to...

    Hawken squirrel rifle

I ordered everything from him in late January, early February, after the Christmas shipping backlogs had cleared, and had a few good conversations with him. He did mention his wife was very sick at that time. I have heard people now say he is struggling with his health. I do hope not as he...

This was my first and only "build/assemble/whatever" - CVA .45 cal. Kentucky

I built one I received as a graduation gift in 1987. I picked it up again a few years ago and replaced a few missing screws etc and then decided to make a few changes. Besides the tacks and patchbox I slimmed it down, cleaned up the lock panels and re-finished.

    WANTED Lyman Great Plains barrel

I have a .50 percussion barrel with the 1-32 twist but left handed. I am hoping to sell it for about $200 OBO. It has fewer than 50 rounds through it.

    Hawken squirrel rifle

Yes, I went with the .45 as it would make for a lighter weight gun compared to a .32 or .36

    Hawken squirrel rifle

Last fall I asked for recommendations for a light weight, hooked breech rifle project. I wanted to build a rifle my teenage daughter and the 4H kids in my shooting sports club would find easy to handle and clean. I settled on a set of squirrel rifle parts from Don Stith. I've worked on the gun...

Lewis & Clark - Corps of Discovery

The journals are great and are probably an undervalued American treasure and they are all online for free! I also enjoyed reading “Out West An American Journey” by Dayton Duncan who co-wrote several Ken Burns products

CLOSED Left hand Lyman GPR barrel

I just ordered a left handed slow twist .54 percussion barrel which is due to arrive tomorrow. Assuming it does and looks ok, I can part with the.50 left handed percussion Great Plains Hunter fast twist barrel I currently have. I have put less than 75 rounds through it.

I would order a Kibler Hawken rifle kit the very day it was put on sale

How to create more interest in traditional muzzleloading.

Yes we recently ran a muzzleloading session for the first time in my county. I think the kids enjoyed the unique experience but admittedly they would rather shoot trap or small bore rifle. We’ll do it again in the spring though

    Finishing a Kibler stock

I used the Kibler iron nitrate solution followed by six coats of Formsby’s tung oil finish. I am pretty happy with it and I think it will be durable.

    Lyman's Great Plains Flintlock Rifle....Good & Bad??

I am also using an English flint. Tried bevel up and bevel down with similar results.

    Lyman's Great Plains Flintlock Rifle....Good & Bad??

I may try that. I bought the GPR that’s not sparking well last year, so it’s not a problem of the frizzen wearing out. I have tried a few remedies but I just don’t get enough spark to ignite the powder charge reliably.
