    My first kit guns.

I really like building kit guns too. I recently finished my third Lyman Great Plains rifle kit and had it on the range yesterday. Enjoy the results of your time and effort!

    My Kibler Colonial Rifle

So this was my first attempt at carving. My original intent with this kit was to leave it plain except for creating the lock panels. But after one look at the beautiful figure in the stock, I resolved to attempt relief carving and incised feature lines to add a little personal decorative...

any canoe paddle makers out there?

Thanks! Yes I do sell them, mostly to folks who ask me to make them a paddle. Occasionally I'll make one that wasn't commissioned and put it up for sale online. Same as you, I prefer single piece paddles over laminates. I like to chop out paddles at Old Fort Niagara as a historical interpretive...

Yep, most of my shaping is with a hewing hatchet followed by a drawknife and spokeshave

    Lyman's Great Plains Flintlock Rifle....Good & Bad??

I love my .50 percussion GPR. I also have a flint GPR, but I have to say it does not spark well.

    My Kibler Colonial Rifle

Thanks much! It shoots well, probably a 3" group at 50 yards. I need to make some final sight adjustments and I want to experiment with a thicker patch too. I like the .58 as it is a bit lighter and I can use the same balls that my NW gun takes!

any canoe paddle makers out there?

I enjoy carving canoe paddles and painting them with either documented fur trade designs or coming up with my own. I usually use ash or maple. Anyone else make paddles? Here are a couple I've made.

    My Kibler Colonial Rifle

I've enjoyed seeing the results of other folks' Kibler builds. I thought I'd share mine. It's a colonial rifle in .58 caliber. This has the Kibler lock and of course, the fit of barrel and parts was impeccable

New member here, looking for a lot of help on gun purchase...

If you can find a Lyman Great Plains rifle in percussion, sounds like that would fit the bill. Seems like there are fewer Lyman GPRs for sale lately, possibly because the new versions will be made by Pedersoli and cost more.

    Dear OLE TIMERS, Act Now

Yeah the staying close to home in 2020 didn’t help. I’ve added four muzzleloaders to the household since January.

Thanks for all the comments. This does give me a couple of other options to consider. Much appreciated!

    parts set with hooked breech

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd like to try to build something my teenage daughter would enjoy shooting. We've already built a Lyman GPR together but it is too heavy for her to handle comfortably. The hooked breech makes the GPR easy to clean (because she does that too). And she does prefer...

    parts set with hooked breech

I would like to build a percussion gun that is on the lighter side and has a hooked breech. Besides the parts sets and kits based on Hawken rifles, are there any out there? Thanks, Mark
