    Home made caps

My mixture is dry when putting in caps. I add the acetone after compound is in the caps. Am I missing something here.

    Home made caps

Will mix only small batches as needed. You don’t know if you don’t ask. So far I’ve made 40. That will hold me for a while. Have tried 4 so far and they all went bang. More fun for muzzle loading. Thanks for all the replies.

    Home made caps

Why did my thread on homemade caps disappear?

    Home made caps

Thanks for the answers. Probably would help if I made a scoop for loading the caps. Trying to figure out when the little scoop is 1/3 full is a pain. I think a scoop small enough to put correct amount in cap when scoop is level full would be a lot easier.

    Home made caps

Understand your answer and the safety factor. Even if I could mix more compound at once it would make it easier. Going by the instruction you mix enough compound to make about 10 caps. I guess if a guy knew how much of each part you were mixing together you could mix a bigger batch each time...

    Home made caps

Received a cap maker for Christmas and have already made about 50 caps. So far they are working fine but was wondering about production procedures of these caps. The kit comes with a compound that you mix together for the caps. What I was wondering about is there are 4 parts that you mix...

    Finally got to shoot it.

Only 20gr of 3f. Not much chance of a brutal recoil. Lol

    Finally got to shoot it.

J Henry & Son I have been working on. Finally got to shoot it today. First shot was my fault and 2nd and 3rd were better. 25 yds.

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

My BIL is the Coroner in a nearby county here in Southern Illinois. We were talking about muzzleloaders yesterday and he told me about an incident he worked several years ago in his county. Seems a group of good ol boys were mixing black powder and alcohol one night and firing a civil war era...

    SHARON MUZZLE LOADER

I have an early T/C that is marked Thompson/Center Arms Cal 50. Serial number 43xxx. No other markings on the barrel other than proof marks under barrel. Had heard that some Sharon barrels were used but nothing for sure.

    SHARON MUZZLE LOADER

Back to the original topic one more time. Did T/C ever use Sharon barrels? I have heard both yes and no on this. And if they did how do you identify the Sharon barrel?

    J Henry & Son

Pictures of bore. Not bad for a 160 yr old barrel.

    J Henry & Son

Information I have on this rifle is that it was made sometime between 1860 and 1865. If anyone has any further information on the J Henry and Son rifles I would appreciate knowing it. Couldn’t find anything saying that there was a .30 cal rifle built.

    J Henry & Son

Here’s the pictures. I have a bore scope ordered and will post pictures of the bore when I get it.

    J Henry & Son

I recently acquired an original J Henry & son rifle. Thought it was a .32 but after extensive cleaning the barrel measures right at .303 on the lands. I guess that would make this rifle a .30 cal. Haven’t looked for a round ball mold for a .30 yet but found .283 round balls at Track of the Wolf...

    J. Henry & Son rifle

Got the wood cleaned down to the original finish. Barrel shows rifling but is still hard on cleaning patched. Need to work on it a little more. About half way down the bore it is a little rough. Double set triggers work fine. Ordered a mainspring from DGW. Don’t think it is going to be possible...
