    Dixie Gun Works Lancaster

Thanks Zonie. Pretty well covers any questions I would have about the rifle. My DGW catalog shows nothing about it. May see if I can find the parts to convert it to flint.

    Dixie Gun Works Lancaster

    Yes. Nothing else on barrel.

    Dixie Gun Works Lancaster

The only marking on the barrel besides DGW is "Made in Italy".

    Dixie Gun Works Lancaster

Thanks for the info. Rifle is solid and only thing missing was the trigger adjustment screw. Friend told me his dad shot the gun a lot but always took good care of it and kept it clean. Bore is clean and not rusted. Patch runs easy and smooth when cleaning. Do you know if this rifle came with...

    Dixie Gun Works Lancaster

Looking for information on a rifle given to me by a friend. The rifle was built by his dad in 1976. It is stamped Dixie Gun Works. Union City Tennessee. Lancaster. Made in Italy. It is .45 cal. Full length stock I believe to be Walnut. No info on it in the DGW catalog. I don't believe this is a...

    Winter project.

Got back from vacation Saturday and back on my project. I got the stock shaved and sanded. Dampened and sanded with 600 paper 8 times to remove any whiskers and put the first coat of boiled linseed oil thinned with 2 parts thinner and 1 part linseed oil. Looks real good right now. I will let it...

    Pulled the trigger today

Went down in person last week and picked up my Pedersoli Pennsylvania .32 flint kit. Nice people to deal with. Great store.

Thank you. Hadn't thought about that.

    Winter project.

Got the barrel browned and the brass polished to a Matt finish. Thinking about using a blackening solution on the brass. Anybody have any pictures of blackened brass on their rifle? Also need opinions on finish on the stock. Thinking tung oil or linseed oil. I don't want to use any stain on it...

WANTED Lyman .310 round ball mold.

Can't find a new one but will settle for a used mold if the price is reasonable.

    Winter project.

Drove down to Union City, Tennessee today and picked up Pedersoli Pennsylvania flintlock kit in .32. I haven't been down to the store in a long time but it was just as nice as I remembered it. It's been a while since I have done a kit but have had some experience in rebuilding a few in the last...

    Cabela's and Bass Pro

Every black powder rifle I have bought in the last two years required a foid card and a waiting period

    Cabela's and Bass Pro

In Illinois all black powder firearms now come under the same laws as any modern firearm. I think the only gun you can buy without a foid card is a daisy red rider.

    Ten year old loaded Hawken?

Used grease method on my .36. Takes a lot of grease. Ball was stuck about 10" down barrel and when it released it did so with a lot of force. Never found the ball in my garage. Took a while to clean the bore but I had already tried to pull the ball and it wouldn't budge. Air compressor trick...

    Stuck ball in Hawkin Rifle

This ball was stuck about 4" down from the muzzle and was not going to go any further down the barrel. Had to use the grease gun method

    Stuck ball in Hawkin Rifle

Just went through the stuck ball deal yesterday. Tried a bullet puller and it pulled loose from the bullet twice. Took the rifle home and tried the air compressor and got nothing. Finally put a grease fitting in the nipple hole and started pumping. Since I didn't want to look down the barrel to...

    It's alive

Funny you said that. The old gentleman that gave me this rifle said his grand-dad told him that he had killed all the squirrels in wayne county with this rifle. Lol

    It's alive

Took the old gifted rifle out this morning and sent some balls down range. Loaded with 30 gr of Pyrodex, .015 pillow tic patch, and a .355 ball. Did this about 8 or 10 times. Nothing to brag about yet as far as a group but the old girl will hit the paper at 50 yds. The .355 ball was a little...
