Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

What about using a tap-o-cap to generate the cap and then inserting a small pistol primer into the cap?

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Thank you - I'm down to about 200 caps and an alternative would be helpful since they are really hit or miss locally.

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Thanks - will try this. This would be for a hawken - less in-line than a pistol, so do you think the flame would still get to the charge?

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Anyone try a variation of this as a homemade percussion cap option for times of scarcity? There are (of course) youtube videos of folks doing all kinds of things to make caps, and this is one of several ways folks have tried to DIY. It might be a horrible idea and I'm in no way condoning it -...

    lee 501 cast bullet in a 1-48"

Hello! I'm going to try IdahoRon"s recommendation and paper patch a lee 501 440 grain bullet out of pure lead for antelope, deer, and possibly elk. Anyone else try this load? I'm hoping that 70 - 80 grains of goex 3f gets me around 1200fps in my investarms hawken. Has anyone messed around...

Sorry for this lame question - are muzzle guards universal or are they sized for each caliber Track of the Wold doesn't sell them by caliber so I'm assuming they're universal? Thanks!

32 cal cva squirrel rifle LH

Hey friends - just bumping this up. I'm just looking for opinions on this rifle, or ideas for other options on smallbore rifles, in LH - I know they're not too common. Thanks in advance for any info you might have! I'd like to hunt small game to include turkeys (legal in my state)with it.

32 cal cva squirrel rifle LH

What would a guy expect to pay for such a rifle, and would this be a decent piece to splash into sub caliber muzzleloading? As far as I know, this is the only factory offering in LH for a smallbore - but maybe there are others? Thanks for any info you might have!

    1-48" bullet choice for elk

If you search for the Hornady Great Plains 385 grain ballistic coefficient, it comes up on a hornady page that I believe is not current, so you may need to try a couple of those pages - you want the bullet page with "Specs" as a click option. I just looked again and it is indeed .148 as per...

    1-48" bullet choice for elk

From what I've learned here, starting at 1400 and 1100 yields the same terminal point blank range - one from a velocity standpoint and the other from an accuracy standpoint. There'd be no advantage to higher velocity unless it went way higher, which is not desirable and probably not possible...

    1-48" bullet choice for elk

I was looking at some ballistic tables in my speer #11 - starting at 1100fps ends up only a little more than 150 fps slower than a 1400fps mzzle velocity at 100 yards. To my aging brain, the performance at 100 would be the same, or better from the slower load. Those pure lead slugs are pretty...

    1-48" bullet choice for elk

This is so interesting - thanks for all of the knowledge shared. So if a guy is ok with a 100 yard gun (which i am), what about starting at the speed of sound and having 950ish fps remaining at 100 yards? How would this affect accuracy, and would a bullet still be stable in game after contact...

    1-48" bullet choice for elk

Thanks folks! I wonder how that hornady great plains would do a little slower - like 1200fps mv. It seems like a soft, somewhat frangible bullet, so maybe there'd be a little more shank showing at impacts under 1100fts? Less recoil too!
